CTD on Second Save

I know this has been answered before but I can't find it right now. So I am going to ask it again in case there has been any new information.

I am running SC4 v. 1.640 (from Origin). I also have installed the NAM 31.1. It appears to be running quite nicely.  As a result of reinstalling operating system (upgrade to Win 7 from WinXP) and the game with mods and some fine-tuning, I have been using the default region Timbuktu for testing. I am currently using the Big City Tutorial and it is here that I am having my problem.

When I do a first save, I have no problem. The game saves.  However, when I go to do a second save, the game crashes to desktop. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this or what I can do to correct it? I should point out that it does not seem to be happening when I open a new city and save; I can save many times.

You might want to check, but Origin's version should be 1,1,641 if it runs without a disk in the drive.

Because the Timbuktu region is very special for the tutorials, I never play it any more.  If this is happening consistently, I suggest the tutorial character of this region might be the problem.

I suggest you choose another region, and see if this problem occurs there.

A Nonny Moose pretty much said it......sounds like an issue specific to the Timbuktu tutorial.  If all you really want to do is test how the game runs on Windows 7 with the NAM and other plugins, simply create a sandbox region to play around in.  If it all works fine, then all you have to do is delete the sandbox out of your regions folder once you're done.

Actually, I keep my sandbox around for testing new plugins.

Well, yeah...that's a good idea.  But I just meant if they didn't want to keep it, they could delete it.  ;)

Really depends on how hard up you are for disk space.  I have something like a terabyte free, so I don't get very excited.  However, every man to his taste.

For testing some of the new BATs I pick up, I keep a city in my sandbox at around Stage 6.  Makes testing new growables at least feasible.
