Need advice on density/value zoning issues!

Hi

 

I'm quite new to simcity 2013 but I'm pulling my hair out over the zones.  So I have carefully built up land value in some areas of my city a medium value area and high value area.  All was fine until I try to upgrade to medium density.  I have less problem with the high value area, the mansions go up in size just fine, if there is room behind them.  The problem is the low density medium wealth houses that sprang up in between the high wealth mansions.  I'm happy to have some medium wealth mixed in, I need medium wealth workers!  But they don't!  They upgrade to medium density, low wealth buildings, which require the space behind them.  

 

I can solve this problem by trying to get a building behind them, but this means the next street has buildings on both sides and I'm sure I've seen it demolish a building to extend the other.

 

The problem in my medium wealth area is the same.  As I try to go to medium density and remove the zoning  behind the low density medium wealth buildings, they upgrade to medium density low wealth.  These are not plots partially out of the medium wealth area...

 

How big are medium density medium wealth plots?  I've not seen any!

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, at the moment these zoning head aches are really killing it for me, I'm fed up of having to zone, de-zone and zone again and again to get the buildings I need...
