I was wondering which would be more beneficial to my tourist region, mainly to the thought that perhaps

SHOPPERS = TOURISTS

That's all I'm curious in, If it doesn't, I might go for an airport or space center.

Please help and share your thoughts

Shoppers and tourists are different. Shoppers will visit commercial, parks & library to buy happiness for the house they go to.

Tourists visit attractions and casinos to spend money. They will also shop at commercial and stay at hotels, if you have any, which will give the commercial they visit happiness same as a shopper.

Definition of success; like getting the juice from an orange, just suck and suck until you suck seed.

I think the Arcology is the best bet here with tourism not working very well

Unless they've fixed it, the Arcology is game destroying. You could say it works too well.

I had a 100k pop city making +3million from cpu/tv production, with no traffic issues. 3 other small cities that were providing resources and where I attempted a bit of tourism (casinos before 2.0) and I built an Arcology.

Within 15mins after finishing it my city was getting swamped with 750,000 (yes, 750k!) tourists / shoppers or workers looking for work.

They come mostly in cars. Blocking up every road choking every part of my city. They finally leave after giving up, blocking up the roads in the reverse direction.

But it takes them too long to get out. A new day starts and now my roads are blocked in both directions.

Deadlocks occur and the roads outside my cities now block up all the way to the arcology.

Never gets better. I eventually run out of money as my industry cant get shipments in / out.

Within a week (game time) all 4 x cities connected to the arcology are screwed.

The arcology is broken because of the way the game is designed around cars as the only real transportation mode. First, I personally believe that it's illogical for a structure like that to house that many cars. It totally defeats the purpose of building an arcology in the first place (are the first 20 levels just parking lots???). The arcology should be designed so that the residents prefer trains over cars to commute to the cities.

HA HA HA HA!  I can't help but laugh at the despair I see in your writing as you described the demise of those 4 cities.  It was easy to envision in my head, step after step and then I thought of the Rage guy responding as the cities choked and died by traffic.  It was a laugh of pity, sorrow, empathy, and sympathy all at once.

I had the issue with the traffic but I followed some advice in this forum about making long roads at the entrance to buffer traffic off the freeway and it worked like a charm. I switched over to computers last night on advice from this forum that computers make more than TV's and currently the city has 318m with 30k citizens. It is funny that it complains about a lack of workers yet nothing stops running. I guess you could say it has been my most successful city as far as money and funny enough it's name is honey booboo.
