Hello, acg45937, since no-one has responded to this post, I will.

Agriculture is a part of the Industry Sector. So my first advice is to download a modification file (modd) to increase industry.

Unlike SimCity 3000, Agriculture is given it's very own zone type, so no dirty industry or other stuff will forcibly take its place. Don't worry.

Click here to go to the Industry Quadrupler download page.

Well a week has gone by since your problem. So you either have it fixed or awaiting for help.

Now all my Farms are BSC/CSX because they look really nice and they don't have the problems of the game Farms.
If you do go BSC/CSX Farms take the time to Read the Read Me that is with each lot. Also download the IR Mod.

The downside to Farming in SC is the Farmers have the I.Q. of a toilet.Education will flush the Farmers out of your city.

Keep the taxes low,air and water clean.Goodluck

That's certainly the point and I think this is quite unsolent because so the farmers do get the image of idiots. This is somewhat wrong28.gif I mean farmers do even need special knowings about e.g. what they're farming and how to farm it, what to use for manure and so on. This is one of the things I really hate about SC, but this is the wrong place to discuss it, so sorry for offtopic...

Anyway, Athens2004, although Agriculture belongs to the industry sector in SC (which also is wrong), the Quadrupler won't quadruple the agriculture jobs. To multiple these you should take the Farming Jobs Multipler , which does increase the farming jobs enormously (x10 or x50!)

Praiodan you hit the nail on the head.

EA has no respect for Farmers and if you avoid the Education factor to keep the Farms the so called Advisors start yelling at you. There should a Your Fired button.

To Farm or not to Farm that is the question.

I have several grids in my region that have both succesful farming and good levels of education, including a university.  I think one of the most crucial aspects to creating a good farming community is to start with the farming.  Make sure there are plenty of connections to the city grids neighbors and make sure there is some industry either in the grid you are working or a neighboring grid.  I don't use any farming mods other than the mod that prevents the maxis farming from growing and my region is at least 75% agricultural.

I agree with dhoppeii (and I am a rural builder, too).
Farms mainly develope when you begin a town and this indepedent of its size. Begin with some res, some industrial and very few commercials (sims prefer com then industry and then agrar).

There is a point when agrar demand drops to zero and is almost not to be recovered - indepedent if you have CSX / BSC or the ingame farms or both of them (like I do - see the reasons for it in Part II of my tutorial). it is somewhere between 40.000 and 75.000 sims which makes it quite hard to cover a big map with farms (unless there aren't huge).

Zone slowly, at the beginning water only some areas and leave even some res areas without water. Most farms don't need to be watered BTW. Build small communities and around them the farms (which is quite realistic, too). If you want to have farms DON'T ZONE HIGHRISE!! Check also the lot's you are plopping; some busstops employ up to 60 sims! Give your farms time to develope, the bigger the town grows the slower they grow as the agrar demand goes down. Avoid lots with big park effect - they will attract R$$ and R$$$ and they don't work on farms.

Supply your farmers with hospitals and firestations (don't forget them if / because you don't water all areas!!! and keep your farms away from roads and highways and avoid shortcuts as traffic kills farm developement (see my tutorial part I.

And even though I like it hilly: farms grow more easily on flat terrain ...

And of course you need some patience ... let your towns run for a while without changing too much.

Hope I could help you.

I don't seem to have a problem having the ag fields grow and I too use a combination of Maxis and BSC/CSX/Nexis/etc farms. Having said that I really haven't had a community develop fully for a long time because I keep changing it.  I don't know whether it hurts or helps the farms develop but I tend not to use many of the unrealistic rewards offered much too soon for a small community (like the hawkers however).  My latest is a large one and I decided to take a new approach (for me that is).  I am spreading out the farms/ranches in small groups pretty far apart and each having some residential (for owners/workers) and each having a low capacity water tower with an aesthetic farm wind mill (albeit the wind mill does generate power ) adjacent.  My problem is I have some problems having commercial demand but the community is growing nicely.
