Weird Drawing Issues (especially near edges of map)

Hi there.

I have this trouble with my Simcity 4. We all know that the game can be a bother on newer hardware but I've made it run fairly stable and well (theres a lot of low FPS scenarios, but I'll manage). However, the one thing that annosy me is this happens in fullscren too):

4fHYVdU.png

It often disappears instantly but otherwise it does it if I adjust the zoom or something like that. Still very annoying. I've tried using the SC4 Launcher and checked the "draw" part of it, but it doesn't help. I've made most of those standard commandline adjustment and even gone thru the process of adding my videocard to the .sgr files and what not.

It only happens when I'm playing anything higher than "low" in "visual effects". I've narrowed it down to being the "property effectPriorityLevel" in "Graphics Rules.sgr". If it's set to anything higher than 1 then it bugs up. Using "low" wouldn't really bother me if it wasn't for the fact that it removes any "hover" effect that you have with your bulding tools, which I really like.

Can anything be done about this? I haven't really encountered anyone else with the issue.

Thanks,

Have you tried switching between software and hardware rendering?

Well, software mode runs absolutely horrible so...yeah. I tried turning in OpenGL but that just leaves a massive white mess on the screen.

Like I mentioned in the thread, I've already tried with SC4 Launcher, with no help...

I tried fullscreen, same thing. It happened with defualt graphic rules as well. Well, I'm using a non-dvd .exe because I don't have a dvd drive.

    I have an i7 920 and a GTX 670. Running Win7 64bit

Can i ask how "old" your videocard is?

Do you have it for years or is it a new one?

Because it might also be a problem with the videocard.

Do you encounter these problems also with other games???

Erhm, the NVIDIA GTX 600 series is from the beginning of last year... so ... yeah.. no, I don't have this problem in any other games. I'm fairly sure it's a problem with the dated game rather than my GPU.

Set your GPU 3D controls to "program selected" or equivalent.  SC4 doesn't even understand anti-aliasing, and if any of this stuff is on, that is probably your problem.  This program was built long before the latest GPU gear, and that stuff didn't exist then.  If all else fails, turn all your options in the GPU off.

Ok thats what i wanted to know...

Hmm im just trying to pinpoint what your problem currently is, so could you try out the following things, dunno if it will help but it might:

    - Before launching the game, close all problems that are running (in the background also) down.

    - Startup taskmanager and select simcity4.exe process and set its core use to 1

Because it seems to me, your memory or the one on your videocard can't handle it very good somehow...

Myeah well, the settings in my Nvidia cPanel are default.I even tried messing around with some of the settings in there but to no avail.

I'm not gonna close programs that run in the background, this isn't the 90's :P

I've made sure that Simcity always only use on core.

I'm sure it's a problem with my hardware but not whether it's bad hardware just bad compatibility with SC4. I was hoping for workarounds.

On another note, every time I save my city, the background turns blue, like so:

    FsX0mOQ.png

I do not have a custom background (even tried downloading one and making it all black but it still happens :(

Sounds like something is interfering with your background textures.  They should be in the Plugins folder in the Program Files ... installation set.  I think at this point, I'd save my user area someplace and do a total reinstall.

Nah, I can sense that these are just incompatibility issues ... It happens without any of my plugins so Im just gonna deal with it. The only thing annoying about playing at low visual effects (regarding the problem in the OP) is that you cant see the circle when you use the terrain tools.
