Mod for map sizes?

I know there are mods to draw roads and highways both inside and outside of your city. However is anyone working on adjusting the actual size of the city tiles? Little has been said about it and -- being no modder or programmer myself -- I wonder if anyone was working on it or is planning to?

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

As a person whos home town is very very large compared to the population, this would allow me to recreate my town in sandbox mode and see how much it would suck.

I'm not holding my breath, but hope this comes :)

It's probably one of those things that's hard-coded into the game. If it can be done, then I imagine it'll be very difficult.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I do not have sources to back me up, but I think I read somewhere that in the closed beta, they had access to larger map sizes. And that this did not make it to open beta.
I'd love for someone to confirm or disprove this, but if it is true then the settings for map size may be hard coded, but the feature may be present for larger map sizes.

Lets say it might be possible if they manage to add custom regions, but we might need to wait some more after that to allow for them to stumble upon how to define map sizes.

Larger map sizes are coded into the game already. Apparently they are waiting until they know that the servers can handle the load.

Right now, even with these small map sizes, even some pretty powerful computers can't handle everything turned on high. It would be even worse with map size larger than this. However, that's no excuse for not implementing them. We should have that option regardless. I'm going to assume it's mostly related to server issues.

Yeah I have heard of rumours about larger map sizes being worked upon but not being 'feasible'. Having said that I've filled up entire cities with maxed-out graphics and there has barely been a drop in the framerate. If at all! Plus my rig is at least 2 and a half years old, I have a ATI Radeon HD 5800 Series graphic card and an Intel Core i7 processor so I thought it would be a struggle to play this game giving my rigs age.

So at any rate I would say my computer could probably handle quite comfortably a 4 by 4 map at least, although 8 by 8 would probably have the same performance as a large high developed SC4 map- sluggish with a really big city.

I think they Maxis has relied too much on what's underneath, i.e. the ability to see data like a spread sheet than the actual game of creating cities the way we want.  I think most people don't give a hoot about the data or what's running underneath their city but just want to see how their cities run...for better or worse.

Yea I hope they come out with bigger tile sizes. I just built a new rig the week before this came out because my last one was about three years old and the board had long since reached its expandibility. Also love this modding community. Really made Sc4 great to play for so many years. Hope they can continue to bring great things to this iteration.
