Destroy and Rebuild?

Hey guys,

I have a question to pose to you. Would it be good to demolish your entire city, plant a whole bunch of trees and wait out nuclear waste radiation THEN once in 20 years or so start over again?

Reason I ask is that I have HUGE ground pollution problem right now, and I have had a nuclear meltdown a little while ago and part of my city is radioactive. Other than that im still raking in the money, at 15 million right now and counting up without having to care about my city or sims. I thought maybe that I wouldnt lose any money at all either seeing as I wouldnt have any expenses (remove all my buildings and sims but maybe leave the roads up).

I was wondering if I restarted all over again by waiting out the pollution and radiation if it would be beneficial for me? Even possibly start into a different specialization.

Also I only pose this question because of the problems I have with gifting money to other cities, otherwise I could just gift all my money to another city and continue on from there. I have gifted like 250k 3 times already, played the city they were gifted to for about an hour real time and they still havent shown up at all (have read that this can take like 2-3 days in real life to actually happen).

So? What do you purpose I should do? P.S. My sims are complaining hugely about germs too!

I would start a new region. To soak up the amount of rads that a melt down generated you'll have to replant trees every day in the game for the next like 500 days. It'll be super boring, I'd think, and you'll also run your 750k budget really low while you wait for radiation to dissipate. That's just my 2 cents.

I would gift the money to another city and abandon it. For me gifting works all the time - if done right. I think this is how it work (this way I get my money over as quick as possible):

- city A active, start sending gift to city B

- switch to city B - to be safe wait a minute or so before doing this. I assume when switching the gifting process is triggered in city B as well, also wait a little bit

- switch back to city A. In the regional view when clicking the gifting button you should now see a delivery truck with a § symbol leaving your town hall in city B driving to city A. It drives to town hall in city A to pick up the gift and drives back to town hall in city B. You can watch this.

- when the truck arrives back in city B I'm getting the message that the gift has been delivered

- switching then again to City B and after s short time you have your gift - done

By watching the money truck you might see if it gets stuck in the traffic which might be a reason why the gift is not transfered.

Hope that that helps!

When it comes to gifting, this is how I do it.

Set you gift up in regin view and submit the request, the switch into the normal view of the city you sent the cash FROM.

you should soon, in about 5-10 real time minutes (on cheeta speed) see a message saying that your funds were sent to the target city.

NOW switch to he target city, slap on cheetah speed, and again, in 5-10 real minutes you should see the cash hit. Works this way every time for me.

Do not demolish and rebuild.

If you do, chances are most of your service vehicles (construction trucks, ambulances, fire, police, streetcars, etc...) will be lost forever. When you rebuild your services you'll be paying for vehicles but they won't appear.

I have abandoned a dozen or so 150k+ big, good cities because of this crippling bug

Demolish? Read my thread about CRIME before doing that!!

Alright, thanks. Never knew that it would increase the crime of the region doing that, but WOW!

Thanks for the tips on gifting, I found if I waited for the truck with the money to get to the other city (and then disappear) then go into that other city that it did eventually show up. So that helped me out with my gifting problem at least. But I wont demolish for now. (P.S. your 2nd step may not be needed, once you press 'gift', the little truck should show up while in region view and you can watch its progress, then move onto the other steps)

Overall I guess it would be more beneficial to keep the city the way it is for now, as it is still making a huge profit (just gifted 10mil to a city and still have 18mil), guess ill make it my money maker when i get down in another city that needs to be bailed out with cash lol.

demolishing a city takes almost aslong as it takes to build one unless you want to ruin the region, as far as u can really get (with zero negativity) is down to a population that will support 1 precinct with 1 detective and 1 clinic, ofcourse this means you also require power and water and sewerage. maybe eventually you could get to zero by just using I for income until you manage to remove all R but in all honesty it is much faster and easier to just restart a new region or gifting to a new city, keep in mind gifting is only a good idea if your current city isnt already over run with crime, sickness etc.
