make custom objects for the game world?

I have never actually  played a SimCity game before and I dont own this one but am considering it. I am interested in the possibility of using my 3Ds Max 2013 however to make my own buildings for the game. from what I have read they dont allow mods to the game (openly/legally) but they are planning to in the future.  has it been possible to make other custom 3D objects in the past such as cars or light posts? can any one give me some insight to what I might need to know? I have never modeled for a video game before.

Well, I don't know if we can do that at this stage since we are still in the early stage of modding.

im pretty certain it wont matter if you use 3DS Max or Maya for modelling. Its both autodesk and its both established software in the industry. Thus it seemed to shift towards maya. Nevertheless anything can handle the coordinates. Its more of an UI difference.

    well even if it for some really odd reason it can only take maya files (which is perfectly interchangeable with 3Ds Max) it wont really matter because I have both :P

    I doubt it would matter which program we used to mod.  Both allow us to export OBJ files so we can import it into other 3d programs.  The game probably uses a proprietary file type anyways, that would most likely convert from an OBJ anyways.

    I guess we will see swapping out buildings with new models and new properties first. then we hope to see the addition of new objects.
