Anyway... the only time my game crashes is when I'm working with the GLR. Never has crashed any other time.

I guess I'm really lucky, not once has the game crashed on my (below the minimum requirements) laptop at home. It does get very slow but never crashes. I do tend to play zoomed out, and I rarely do UDI missions anymore because it lags real bad if my city is starting to fill the map.

I run 2GB of DDR2 ram and the game will still use it all and crash eventually.  I have lost lots of hard [?] work, but I still do not want an auto save.  I screw up in my cities to often and want to exit without saving.

I just tried something new, and my PC stopped crashing when playing SC4...and that was after about 1.5 hours while rotating and zooming out, too...

I checked my virtual memory and noticed that I never had it custom set....so I just took my amount of ram (1024) and multiplied it by 2.5 to get 2560 (this is an actual rule). I put this number as the min and max. I then set my 2nd hard drive to PC-run virual memory. After that, under the same system properties advanced menu and the visual effects tab, I noticed that the windows visual effects were on for a ton of really insignificant things, so I set it from let windows choose what's best for my system (which happened to be EVERYTHING) to adjust for best performance. It might have not done much, but who needs a shadow under the mouse cursor and things like that.

Anyway, the game works well now 1.gif hopefully this helps someone else.

I hope it works for you, but those are the first things I do after I install Windows.

it just happened to me, but it hasnt happened prior to this in a while. I built a new exit to a new avenue loop around the cbd, completed the avenue loop, torn down an old stadium, tore down a high school to build a new arena right off to the new avenue loop and built the new high school where the old stadium was. it's frustrating to lose about 45 minutes of work.

And I thought I was the only one who thought SC4 could tax a decent computer.

In my case, I play SC4 Deluxe on a 2.5Ghz P4 laptop with 768MB DDR and a 128MB ATI. Playing a city with 250,000 or more sims can get pretty sluggish pretty fast, and that's with all of the little Windows trinkets turned off.

The occasional crash happens when I lay rail across an unsuitable area, which is pretty odd.

Right now I'm thinking about buying another laptop, only this time with an AMD Athlon 64, 128MB video memory and 1GB DDR2 ram. I'm still wondering how well that can run SC4

21.gif    Personnaly, I KNOW its the use of plug-ins that crashes the game, but not because of the plug-ins themselves, but how you have them oragnized/installed. I can write a book about my problems in SC4 crash related instances and what to do to stop thay filthy whore from ruining game time

Organize your plug-in folder by the maker/group of the BAT/Texture/prop others should be in a miscelanious folder, with subfolders stating what they are (RES.COM.IND.UTIL. etc.....)

The thing is, some of these plug-in files have auto-installers that create folders for the said plug-in, so ya wanna make sure ya have the same crap in the same place and not duplicate it.

Organizing is the best way to keep SC4 runnin like dolla bills outya pocket at the ol' fashion show

On another note, from personal experiance... The some trinkets from the NAM will crash your pc, but if you folks'd read the frikkin read-me's you'd know that already.

On a side note, I bought SC4 before I had an internet service and played the game as it was, virgin with no problems, I got an internet service, downloaded some cool stuff and low and behold CRASH BOOOM BANG!!!! Keyboard goes flying, the mouse wish it had a hole to crawl into after doin a superman down the hall and the tower wishes it had on football pads after bein roughed up by a mad gamer who just spent 2 hours creating a tunnel city with over 30 tunnels and 17 bridges.....but life goes on.

Remember, cool stuff as far as additions to a game made by non-affiliated members of the games maker give you no warranty.

Plug-ins are like drugs and women, cant live with em, cant live... well you know....

   Happy building
