Howdy Folks,
Well I have decided to start my Old CJ over and this time instead of using a map from the Stex I decided to try and Terraform my planet.

Planet Stats

Atmosphere Very thin
75% carbon Dioxide
30% Nitrogen
5% Heavy Water
1% trace gases
Bio Mass 0%
Mineral Mass 100%
Iron Ore 90%
Trace Elements 10%

Weather : Calm
Temp: Sub Artic to Artic

Gravity: unkown
Water 10% in the plolar caps

Watch while I terraform this green stuff into a workable Mars class Planet with Ice and Rock and so much more....

LNX_mars2050_1.jpg

here is my 1st attempt Mods used

Mars Terrain Mod
Mars Rock Mod
teirusu's Rain Mod

Comments are welcome in this CJ advise is also welcome..

Thanks for stoping by

Delta Pavonus

My 1st order of business to terraform the planet I want is to find a place for the perminate ice sheets and then decided where the teporary ice will accumilate on the planet durring the -150 degree Farenheight nights. As you can see I have got two ice sheets in place and some nice rolling hills amist some very tall mountians. using the rain mod from teirusu I have placed some frozen carbon dioxide on some of the low areas of the mountians. Eventually I will have crater areas as well as smooth plains areas. Rocks will be placed also.

Interesting, I look forward to an entire planet being terraformed. Can't wait for more.

here is todays update I got a little more terraforming and I even got a few craters in also...

Another smaller sheet of ice smoothing the edges has begun to be a chore.

Beautiful terrain. Great job on the terraforming. I can't wait to see the terraforming complete and when you will build a city on the planet.

I would like to see you add some exotic and weird bats and plants and etc. After all it is another planet and anything goes. I say the more exotic and futuristic, the better. 2.gif

some very nice terraforming pmiller - it is coming out very nice.
only bit of advice i can think off right now is this: keep up more of what you did in the upper left hand side of the map. The area where it is very rocky and craggy and rough - i like that a lot. that area looks more like what a Mars mountain range would look like. the parts with the erosion marks to the right of it, i kind of don't like as much. while Mars does have some erosion, it hasn't been as plentiful from what i have seen. There are small drainage ditches here and there on Mars, but not huge water-eroded areas.
i just took a look, and i like the dune area you have under the rough area - it is in the city right under the crater. those dunes look very natural and have a very good flow to them - i've seen many pictures of such dunes from the Mars Obital Surveyor. in fact, i have tried a couple of times unsuccessfully to create dunes just like those. However, they should be a bit further from the moutain area.
i also like your crater, but the sides should not be as high, not as steep.
also, do not be afraid to keep some of those flat areas flat. Mars does have many flat areas.
Very nice, and keep up the great work. i will be keeping an eye on this - the official first Mars terraforming journal 44.gif

well this was suppose to be a Mars class planet not actually mars. but I would assume it would be the same. thanks for your advise I will try some of that.... I am quite new at terraforming so this may take a while...

Region is coming along nicely, looking very mars-like. I can't wait for the city building to start!

Delta Pavonus?  Are you by any chance a fan of Alistair Reynolds?  (Revelation Space, Redemption Ark, etc.?)  Same sort of setup as Resurgam.

Looks good, but I have one critique- Even with such a thin atmosphere, temperate differences that extreme would create massive windstorms.  In other words, steep mountains like the one you've built would not last long.

    Just my 2 cents.

Very nice.  I too am trying to terraform a whole large region myself and I know how difficult it can be.  your maps are looking very attractive and interesting.  if you do plan on putting in some actual cities you will need some flat land somewhere though.  I suggest making a large extinct volcano somewhere and then making some wide plains with a few scattered craters.  this will simulate an ancient lava flow.

    Keep up the great work!
