What program to use for CJ/MD banners

I would like to put together a CJ but I am a rookie when it comes to making banners and road maps for my cities. I'm not looking for anything groundbreaking just a tutorial or something to point me in the right direction of how to make them or what program to use. Thanks

If you want to make extra images that are not snaps of your city you need an image manipulation program.  I suggest the GIMP.  It is free.  If you download this you should take care to get the help files and the tutorial (Grokking the GIMP) as these are separate downloads.  If you've never used a big graphics program like this, there is a bit of a learning curve.  GIMP is essentially a drop-in replacement for Photosuite.

 

By using the layering technique, you can work on a road map by having a snap of the area underlying the map (image you are working on), then just delete the background layer after you are happy with the map.  You can also leave it there at a variable transparency then combine the two layers before exporting the whole works as a .jpeg
