Just wondering how many die hards are out there that remember how bad the sc4 launch was? Granted it wasn't anywhere near as bad as this one but it took some of the smartest nerds weeks to figure out that something as simple as unlocking the cap for high density buildings wasn't included in the release program.... for weeks Know it alls were lying saying they figured out,,, but it was our resolve and I hate to say it,,, it was our collective " bitching and spamming" the simcity forums that got anything done...My biggest gripe this time around is that Maxis seams to take a more holier than thou stance this time around... probably because the world is a faster place than it was ten years ago but hey they wanted to produce a game of the future so no fault for us bitching constantly.

Not just the first month...  it was bad until Rush Hour was released.  I remember the Maxis team failing hard trying to get SC4 out with patch after patch after patch and features like one way roads that were impossible to implement.  The best part was when EA had to step in and reorganize Maxis with outside programmers to finish Rush Hour because Maxis crumbled.  And that's probably why we never saw anything more released for SC4.  Maxis had a hard time delivering resulting in SC4 didn't sell as well as it could have.  EA decided it was too much effort for so much cost and for too little profit and moved on.

Will SC2013 follow the same path?  It's hard to say because microtransactions changes the game but will it change it enough for EA to consider it worth it?  The way things have been going I'm pretty sure a lot of content won't be developed for fear it will destabilize the game.  My prediction is most DLC or what have ya will be things like extra buildings or shallow features like extra graphs.  Features like subways or being able to drive in another persons city I think will be a long time coming considering how the launch went and now that the community has it hands on the simulator to bang on it and see how it works, is finding it to be primitive to basic in many important ways.
