Gabbtoria: A Vanilla Region Journal

OOC Introduction:

Well with the release of the new Sim City its rekindled my interest in the old one and I'd to share the rekindling with you all. This will hopefully be a successful journal of the rise of Gabbtoria.

Now like a lot of other journals I will be following the progress of a band of intrepid explorers, intent on colonising new lands,  somewhere else on Smearth (the sims planet). Luckily for them its a huge planet with only a little bit explored so they easily find a large island to call their new home, named Gabbtoria after the visionistic captain who had organised the endeavour.

Now, this will also be a organic vanilla city journal with progress being noted as it happens in the game. This of course may mean it goes belly up at some points but hey, that's the fun of it.

Right enough of that, welcome to my first town/city, a medium sized square built in hard mode.

Founding New Foundland part 1:

Well after sailing for what seemed like months, we've finally discovered a large island to call our new home. Finding a safe place to land and set up our new home we happened upon this stretch of coastline.

Quickly setting to it, we dismantled the large colonising ship we'd came in and began planning what we would need to survive and prosper in our new home. Quickly setting up some offices we sent a small boat back to our former home to announce our successful founding. This office also allowed us to lay down the initial plans and soon, the basis of a small town had been decided on.

As you can see we'd planned on  a small linear settlement with everything we'd need to survive and make money. Trade routes would be established from the dock offices, to take our goods to other nations for trade and as such, the industry was built up close to the shoreline. Behind that came houses then further in the farmland needed to grow food. Add in some wind turbines for energy and several months down the line this was the state of New Foundland.

Now after this initial settling in more sims had been brought in on the trade ships and as such the small town continued to expand along the coast while the farms continued to be cleared further in land.

Around half a year passed and with more and more families moving in, education and healthcare has become a growing issue being raised by the sims. With this in mind we've had a small school built to help further our young sims minds.

Fast forward half a year and were at the present day. Further growth has included new roads and a clinic near the school. The nearby industry, while profitable and key to our growth, was beginning to make the sims ill and the clinic was needed to help with this problem.

Also thanks to more farms being cleared small communities started to spring up around them, away from the main town. Here's a photo of one such village, built around agriculture.

Finally a aerial showing the current state of New Foundland.

That's all for now, hopefully I'll be able to join in several months where hopefully, I'll be able to show continued growth of our fledging town.

    Founding New Foundland part 2:

Hey folks and welcome back to Gabbtoria. A lot has happened since the last time we viewed the small nation, (or rather single town at the moment) and New Foundland has continued to grow. We'll start a little while after where we left off. Growth was to continue outwards from the industrial heart of the small town, with a large amount of new farms springing up.

However several months later we were to realise we'd made a big mistake when trash started piling up.

    ud2trashtalking.png

This led to us having to create a dump to handle all the waste and when that filled up quicker than we thought, a waste to energy plant was constructed. Not the most pleasant method but it did the job. Did mean the small town wasn't making a profit though, so more industry was zoned around the waste plants to help bring in more trade.

    ud2Newindustry.jpg

This then led to the expansion of the port to handle all the new raw materials we were producing.

    ud2newport.jpg

This helped growth immensely and with more money flowing in we expanded the town outwards into the island. This expansion, along with Gabbtorians eager to move away from the pollution generated by the industry, led to a whole load of farms and small communities springing up, mainly to provide food and jobs for the locals, but also producing goods alongside the industry. This then, shows the current state of New Foundland, growing further by the day.

Now that's all I've got for you. Apparently their are complaints about the growth and industrialisation from some of the original Gabbtorians, as well as the influx of outsiders. For the minute they seem content just to voice concerns but who knows where it might lead?

    Till next time

One ques. do you have the NAM 31? If you do, you can add street textures to really make it a small village.

Nice work It's awesome seeing what people can do with what they have, rather than making everything they need. I prefer neither over another, it's just nice to have some variety  Keep up the good work, I'm sure you can! :)

Vanilla as in base game, no rush hour, unmodded?  Playing plain vanilla can truly be a challenge, and it's cool to see people up for it.

With so many mods out there these days, it's easy to forget precisely how powerful and open-ended even the base game was!    This looks pretty nice.  Keep it up!
