Cob92: Simcity looks it best when you have small towns, although I do try to have 'cities' with skyscrapers in the centre and suburbs surrounding the centre.

In this entry I test out ProcsKalone's Free Roam Camera (FRC) and let me tell you that the FRC is a beast to use at first. But once you find a stable plane for directing the camera it then works like a dream and you achieve incredible close-up views of your streets (and sims) whilst zoomING out very far allows you to finally capture ones entire city from a satellite view.

Now when we left Slackners several months ago, there were a dozen or so skyscrapers and apartment blocks which had arose in the city centre; most of which were high wealth (quite frankly $$$ has the coolest looking buildings)! A few more skyscrapers have popped up but they are all confined to the city centre. The suburbs though have been left untouched.

And now, a photodump of FRC pictures with part 2 coming tomorrow!

    tvvk.png

At last the complete birdseye/satellite view of Slackners!

    n9lw.png

A shot taken close to the Morn river.

    v2aj.png

As Sims have a powerful fear of the darkness, many of them can only sleep with the lights on regardless of the electricity bills...

    dzyi.png

Rolex Plaza has the finest luxury stores and IT providers in Slackners, the Kolner Dom cathedral only adds to the high land values and tourist numbers.

    o6l4.png

Kimtept Mound is the closest hill next to Slackners, although small it still offers a decent view of the city.

    8ei5.png

Due to one of Doctor Vu's diabolical experiments, this poor Sim has a massive electrical halo around his body which pulsates and expands around him.

    i2qt.png

The lone moving-in truck patiently waits for the traffic lights to change after several jobs expertly completed.

    0y42.png

Here we look down straight into the heart of Slackners' centre.

    y6tg.png

As a side note the FRC can reach the street level itself so ones view becomes that of a bystander or pedestrian!

    ko8l.png

The afternoon drags on as the descending haze complements this.

    0o4d.png

Despite Slackners' affluence, there is no major hospital and instead a smattering of clinics serve the health needs of the citizens. Rumours abound of the mayor stifling the healthcare budget and getting cosy with some of the private health insurance firms whose offices are located in a couple of Slackner's skyscrapers.

    31ua.png

    Lens flare at its finest.

Finally special thanks to ProcsKalone for modding the Simcity camera and vastly improving it. But I do warn you, the learning curve is steep!

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

gman28: The wonders of ProcsKalone's Simcity 5 camera in action!

In this entry I push the FRC to its limits and finally I get to see what these Sims actually look like from up close! I'm not sure if close-up pictures of these sims has been show before, but if it hasn't then this will be a first. I would also like to add that these close-up zooms reveal more of the texture quality and characteristics of this game. One thing I noticed were the lack of variation on individual wall tiles, the absence of dirt and some poor quality cars shadows. In fact these oddly placed shadows give the impression that cars are sometimes floating!

After this we return to Gridsville, please note that the pictures for Gridsville were taken before I had downloaded the FRC.

So we return to Gridsville and at last I upgrade some of the roads to accommodate for higher densities. Please note that these pictures were taking before I downloaded ProcsKalone's Free Roam Camera. Also because I'm so tired I've ran out of gas, so there won't be any captions for these pictures today I'm afraid.

    Jeryl Salas: Thank you.

    Entry

I'm sorry for the delay but I've rather busy in university, since I only have one day where I can get back home and access my computer then I'm only going to be able to make weekly updates. In this entry I return to Gridsville one more time.  Afterwards, for the next couple of entries, I'm going to use only the black 'n' white filter for screenshots.

Today in this entry we go back to the District of Pangia and I experiment with the noir filter as I return to Echoes, Slackners, Artex and other towns. I've got to say I have rarely used the noir filter but after some prolonged use I am rather impressed by the effect.

Really nice work here my friend with SC2013 I'm liking the looks of the avenues and the apartments. Very good work I am enjoying looking through the updates. That last shot looks great such a big hustle and bustle city here my friend really making the SC2013 look good! The view from those towers must be awesome, also the resort looks like a wonderful place to take a relax day off. Good CJ here

TekindusT: I know. What I would not give for 4*4 or 8*8 maps. I wish they would somehow keep those car/pedestrian animations whilst removing GlassBox and replacing it with a more efficient engine.

    wwetom1: Thanks!

    Entry

Today we take a look at Echoes via the noir filter. I had a little scare when it suffered several rollbacks, thankfully though no data was lost. Anyway to Echoes...

    w4hz.png

I lied... We first take a detour to Slackners. Here is a great view of the CBD and the wind farm in the background.

    tqe4.png

Taking shots like these is at first rather hard with the FRC (Free Roam Camera), but the trick is to revert to birdeyes view and use the up and down keys to move left or right. This moves the central point of the loci (about which all camera angles are centred around) to a different position on a strictly two-dimensional plane.

(Note: Who says CJs can't be informative as well? ;))

    mu7e.png

    A close-up of Slackner's suburban circular hub.

    m3ks.png

Finally! The proper birdeyes view of Echoes. THIS is what I mean by my tear-drop designs for cities, I'm sorry towns- the FRC makes SC2013's city tiles really small.

    fhtm.png

Viewed under the noir filter, the downtown part of Echoes feels like 40s Manhattan in miniature.

    0fbf.png

    Ditto to the caption above.

    z5v4.png

Even shiny glass-framed skyscrapers can look good when viewed in noir.

And that is it for my noir pictures. In the next entry I will be developing a new settlement in one of the regions released in patch 8. See you then.

I would like to announce that I'm no longer updating this CJ because I've lost interest in SC 2013. I know Benedict made this CJ number one of last year but my heart is not in it. Instead I'm going to focus all of my energies in SC4 because frankly it is like a hundred times more engaging than this game.

Maybe when SC 2013 has terraforming, contiguous city tiles, larger city tiles and modding may I consider returning to this game. Last year was good though but I feel like I'm only repeating myself if I continue with this CJ.

So my apologies for putting a full stop to this CJ.

Actually the people commenting in your CJ, and my application of a formula to your update-to-replies ratio made you number one last year ;)

I know it's now over, but I wanted to congratulate you one more time.
