This is the last part to the Artex miniseries, and after this I will be trying out something a bit different in the next entries. Also I would like to point out that I'm not touching the game after hearing about all these problems with patch 2.0, so until that is resolved I am not going back to my cities only for the patch to mess them up.

In this entry there will be no commentary, just the last ten pictures of Artex.

There will be a couple more entries but until Maxis has sorted out the problems of patch 2.0 (and they call it a patch, a patch!) there will be no more foreseeable entries. Unless I'm feeling really brave...

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

Great range of pictures. One or two of them make the game look a lot like SC3000, which is a bit unexpected.

Yeah, SC5 graphics bare a striking resembling to SC3000 graphics, which is a bit of a devolution considering SC4's amazing textures and colour schemes!

So it's been a while since I posted anything in this topic, but I would like to introduce another area of Vizoria; the District of Quark. This is an entire new area (different region ;)) of Vizoria I have yet to show you. All the previous entries have been in the District of Pangia.

So, with an expanding economy in the Pangia district, this omnipotent mayor (who can be at several places at once) decided to found the settlement of Carene. But before any construction can take place, our mayor took a brief tour of the proposed site for Carene.

Good job, but it just isn't the same as Simcity 4

I know, which is why one day I'll get around to starting a SC4 city journal...

Oh dude if you make a SC4 CJ the way you have done this one, I can't wait to see it :)

Well I do have a massive scale-mapping of the Zurich region complete with the style of terrain and a decent tree mod, but due to exams and revision I haven't had the chance to do some work with this massive region. Sadly though this CJ only works because of the different camera angles so I feel an SC4 CJ would be all that more harder.

In this entry the first residents move into Carene, and as always things start off small (and ironically when Simcity 5 is at its best). This is part photodump, part in depth look at each stage of the city. I'm just taking my time because some players rush, rush, rush and miss out the small details...

In this entry, Carene's small shopping centre flourishes, some factories arrive and things are going so well the residents of Carene even petitioned this mayor for a town hall!

In this entry we return back to Echoes, the first city I built in the district of Pangia. We take another tour around the first city I built in this game which was about two and a half months ago. Based around a tear drop design, which is one of my favourite of laying out roads, Echoes is basically a 'city' with the CBD, various clusters of commercial and residential fanning around the central tear drop, finally there are two clusters of industry upon a line which runs through both top corners of Echoes.

So anyway, enjoy this mini-tour (without narration) or mini photo-dump!

I will get around to following up on Carene, but the next four days I'm rather busy with exams so the earliest I will be posting another entry for Carene will be late in the Friday, or early Saturday.

Finally part 2 of this mini-tour around Echoes will be up tomorrow, followed afterwards by a another journal on Artex's development.

In this next entry we go to Artex and I decided to do a really simple sequence of pictures as I went along one side of Artex's perimeter from top to bottom. I hope you like it!

So I've been disgruntled with this game for some time now but reports that Maxis are considering bigger maps, terraforming, more transit options and possibly contiguous city tiles (or even no borders period) has piqued my interest. Sure it could be several months before these features come, either in updates or (which is more likely) an expansion pack. An expansion pack which should be free considering how Simcity 5 is such an incomplete game AND the developers had access to terraforming and tested larger cities. Either way I decided to play this game again and I took enough new pictures for at least a dozen new entries. Hell I even had a little fun to what with trying out new angles for taking pictures, I'm even considering a video for dramatic effect!

This is the last tour of Artex, afterwards I'm going back to the District of Quark and focusing on Carene and other cities I am developing in that district.

    95zo.png

And that's all for today folks, I hope you like these pictures! Tomorrow we return to Carene, so see you there!

Oh yes one more thing. I'm closing down my non-forum CJ which is just the same as this one. The rational for the same CJ in both the forums and non-forums was to cover more bases, but on further thought I figure having just a forum CJ would be more convenient. Finally if I ever get around to an SC4 CJ it will be a forum-based one.

In this entry we return back to Carene as it gradually expands...

    xr1a.png

I really love this region, the mixture of mountains and rivers is rather breath-taking. Still it would be nice to terraform some...

    ak2q.png

I added this little street here as such land was ripe for development, especially given its close proximity to the river.

    kpxu.png

And to further boost the local economy I thought a strip of shops wouldn't hurt either.

    iwnx.png

And this view is why this land is so sought after- should the mayor zone it!

    pj8r.png

But beautiful sunsets are guaranteed in Carene.

    mhg4.png

With the development complete, this mayor decided to rest on his laurels and take some pictures with invisible floating camera.

    5vgk.png

I really dig that cloud hovering around that mountain in the distance, plus the little white puffs of smoke from the cabins is cool to! If I didn't know better I would say the puffs of smoke are emitted at the same as the smoke from the industries chimneys!

    oja2.png

A second bridge to connect with the second major area of Carene. I wish to God that the developers had given us more variety of bridges though, we only have one stinking type!

And that is it for this entry. In the next one we focus on Carene once more and then afterwards we go somewhere different in this beautiful district.

    Yeah thanks Benedict!

In this entry we have more atmospheric pictures from Carene and a bit more!

    mnm1.png

Out of sight of mind, Carene's sewage pumping unit will be one thing this town hides away!

    iwba.png

Carene's mayor decided to expand on the other side of the river as well in a rapid burning of them simoleans.

    sz5u.png

Rejecting the curved roads so common in Carene, this mayor decided to go for the good old grid format.

    3vuv.png

A slumbering Carene begins to awake as the dawn approacheth.

    g57i.png

The sun at last breaks forth in all of its resplendent glory.

    qzn.png

And soon the residents of Carene awoke to do... Shopping at 6:30 am?

    96mx.png

Sim drivers are always at their worst in the morning.

    unw.png

In the top of this picture is north Carene, in the bottom is south Carene.

    2lvk.png

Good old bird's eye captured this conglomeration of moving vans.

    7rii.png

With an expanding population, Carene's town hall will soon be upgrading!

At this point in time we leave Carene to visit a new town developing in the District of Quark! Stay tuned for more details!

In this entry we christen Gridsville, my first to actually use a grid! Well for the most part... So this will be a little bit of a photodump but I rather like Gridsville scenary so I overindulged.

Welcome to the second entry of Gridsville! Giving the hills and the camera angles (which could just stretch over to the hills flanking one side of Gridsville) I had some fun going to various places taking snapshots! We start off with some scenic shots followed by a sprinkling of suburbia!

In this entry I experiment with more isometric angles plus I take some close snapshots of Gridsville's CBD. Again Simcity 2013 works best in the small town scale and if the game does one thing right then small towns feel and look the best. I also hear that the next update is going to have an easy-to-use tunnel and bridge-laying feature for roads, so expect some snazzy looking roads and tunnels to be featured (when I get around to it) in this CJ.

One more thing. Imageshack appears to be experiencing a few technical glitches so a few of the pictures in this CJ may not be displayed properly, or even at all!

So it's been a while since I last posted an entry on this CJ. Suffice to say I have been busy with form-filling and have been distracted by other things during these summer holidays. In this entry we remain in Gridsville where we have four shots of the city and finally four other birds-eye pics. I hope you like it!

In this next entry we take a look at a series of pictures, taken from the South of Gridsville, which start at the Southeast point of Gridsville and ends at the Southwest.

So with update 7 we can now build bridges and tunnels and this is a most welcome feature indeed. So I decided to start up a new town, Candyland, to test out these new road options. I was very pleased with the results although the road textures at the tunnel's entrance and exit should be improved so that the road runs inside the tunnel. Instead we have a black surface at each end of the tunnel, though I am certain with just one update that texture issue/feature can be added or resolved. Lastly these tunnels and bridges are fully functional and can carry power, water, sewage and traffic pathfinders.

    Anyway here are the pictures!

p.s. Sorry for the city boundary, but I was so engrossed with Candyland and testing out the bridges and tunnels that I left it on.

Welcome back to another instalment from Candyland! I'm coming to realise that half the fun of this game is staring at things, staring at a town, staring at trees, staring up at large buildings, staring down at an area below you and so forth. Well Candyland certainly qualifies for this and in particular I think update 7 as also improved the terrain textures somewhat, but I'm not sure about that...

Good to see you back with more updates.

I hope you like them. I do fear they are rehashes of old entries but the bottom line I guess is that they are here to showcase Simcity.

Today we explore some of Gridsville's civic services: schools, police, parks and more.

    qj2t.png

The hazy fog is a near constant companion during the morning in Gridsville.

    0i5q.png

Through careful planning, this mayor ensured any industrial areas were always downwind of residential areas.

    o0i4.png

It's late in the night and yet for some reason the elementary school is still open, I guess these Sims take lots of remedial classes...

    rnui.png

The water tower faithfully satisfies all of Gridsville's water needs, though it is said the chugging of water becomes rather loud in the night; disturbing nearby residents.

    7zic.png

A police station and a doughnut shop. What could be more convenient?

    bwr9.png

Bleary-eyed and all, the Sims begin the morning commute down Vader's Avenue- one of Gridsville's major arteries.

    44y1.png

A report came out in the Daily Sim Gazette stating a correlation between bland factory names and stress for those working in these factories. Poor saps...

    2sn2.png

Despite being so close to the industry, these Sims scrub down every square inch of their cabins to keep them clean and pristine. A proud bunch these Sims are I tell you.

    wosi.png

For some reason in this neighbourhood motorcycles are all the rage!

    ///

I hope you liked that entry, as always comment and rate.

After this photo-dump of Gridsville, we will be returning to the District of Pangia and to the city of Slackners. In this entry pizzas, doughnuts, skateparks, motorcycles, trees and hills abound!

Loving the small town focus; I feel like too many SC players just push for the skyscraper forest and ignore the beauty present in these smaller cities.
