Modifying Data.package to change locale (language file)

Googling for this language fix brought me here,so hi!

 

Now.had a brief scan through,but not too sure how to go about it,asking now as yet to buy the game untill i know how to/how easy/how often (after every patch?) the patch is to apply.

Yeah just create the new fixed file (or download it from here) each time the game's patched by EA, assuming they don't create some method to stop this language fix.

Guess that`s the risk you take for saving money.

 

Now i guess it`s price hunting time,£25 cheapest i`ve found so far,now i`ve found the fix `n` how to here,makes it seems a no brainer tbh.

Weird...after applying this 'fix' I get an error message saying: 'You have not redeemed a product code for SimCity. Please make sure you have redeemed the product code in Origin.' The game was working fine before this patch came out.

The teaching steps are already posted last night by it's what I followed last night to make my Russian version English and my wife did the same this morning for the new updated version, I was still in bed asleep!

Maybe there's a difference in our versions and you need to create the fixed language version yourself, for that error it says here you have to reinstall unfortunately.

Thanks for uploading those packs, they work just fine.   BUT I have a question: Is there any way to chance these text lines, appearing on the region wall, to english? I don't speak any Hungarian so it's kinda annoying.

 

I haven't found a way to fix that. We will just have to live with this for now.

When installing does it matter what language you install it as 1st,or is it better to choose a certain one (whatever it is).

Does this also work if I want to change language from Polish to English? I am an expat working here and don't understand Polish yet but I bought the Retail Disc thinking I could install it in English.

yeah it is possible to make pol -> eng , i dont have pol data.file os i cant make it, maybe someone with pol file can do it, or make it yourself

Hello everybody,

 

first I want to thank sct_nicolaus for the great hint to modify the language files. So I can modify my own files and don't have to wait.

Its very tricky from EA to make the very special East-Europe Ultra-Edition of SimCity where you can't switch to English by changing the Origin-Client language an reinstall. Chapeau EA!!!

 

I have a question now. I'm from Germany and have changed my Russian Data file to English successfully with the S3pe-Tool. But how do I do it with a German file? 

My Russian and English files are under 1 MB (~0,6 MB) - I got the German language file from a friend which is about 9 MB big. 

When I do the procedure of copying the JSON-Strings from that German file to the Russian File I still get an English game... Whats the Problem? Any suggestions?

I wrote myself a little program, that enables the language without the need to modify the game-files. ATM my program only supports activating English (US and GB) and German so for every other language, I would need the locale-code (like en_US, en_GB or de_DE). If I get these, I can add them to my program and put it on here.

 

 

PS:

For everyone who is interested in how it works. The language-lock is not server-side. You need to start my program before you start origin and keep it running as long as you play. It will create a local proxy and directs all connections through it (that's why images will load a bit slower while the program is running). However, the program waits for the origin-client to ask for the games you own and change the available languages for it, so the client thinks you are allowed to use english/german or whatever language you want.

Because the server is not checking it again, you are free to download the game in the specific language and play (simcity only checks with the origin-client if you have that language, not online)
