Unlike the other duder with this problem I didn't have the wrong config pile. I have tried this on two regions that are rectangular. Square regions, possibly larger than 1024 like Grenoble, work fine. Rectangular regions, Dayton and Milwaukee, do not.

Here's the sequence of events: I select create new region and have a blank plains map. I then bring up the finder window and select the .jpg. Immediately, a popup tells me the region is 1024x1478 and that it needs to be 1024x1024. I could be doing this procedure wrong, has anyone got advice or a solution?

More accurately, the greyscale I am trying to load is 1025 x 1473, the bitmap image is 16 x 23, so the 64:1+1 scale is right.

    Colorspace, is grayscale...

This map loaded, the same map, correctly, as recently as August 8. In the meantime my hard drive crashed and a new hard drive was installed. Everything is reinstalled, and square maps load...the only real difference between then, and now, is the newest version of the NAM. If someone has the new October NAM and is able to load a new region, let me know that...

NAM wil not effect your region making.

If you use the game create new region it tends to use it's own default config.  I don't know why.

I suggest, instead of using the game create new region, that you use Windows Explorer to make a new folder, then copy your config file into it.  Copy the grayscale elsewhere.

    good luck!
