Glassbox perfect for Tropico

Glassbox was used to make the wrong game, it should have been used for Tropico.  The cities in Tropico are small and confined to a single small island.  That would be a good fit for the limitations of Glassbox.  The game could be multiplayer with each player controlling an island with the islands connected by ships.  Islands seperated by ocean would look more natural than the cities of SimCity 2013 look.

Actually, Glass Box will not work for Tropico because it is specifically designed so that all Tropicans are persistent at all times from immigration/birth until emigration/death. They are also meant to be able to travel off-road.

--Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I was almost gonna agree, but then you mention that Tropicans do travel off-road. And I'm like oh yeah, the agents in Glass Box only travel on road.

However, Kalypso media can learn something from this. If Simcity is able to get hundreds of thousands of people in a tiny cramped excuse for a city tile, it should be no excuse for them to still limit the population cap on a hypothetical future Tropico game. I mean a city of even just 10,000 would actually be cool. And the inter-region play would just be flatout amazing. Trading between islands would be a welcome addition. They still need to add more variety to their buildings though.

Tropico 4 has an achievement for reaching a population of 1000. 10,000 is ridiculously huge for Tropico.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Huge but not impossible apparently. I did see an old forum thread on Kalypso forum about someone being able to break the population cap and exceed 10K. He even had pictures to prove it. Though it was most probably a glitch or something. Back then, the population cap was 1250 but I think they increased it to 1500, which is ridiculous considering they greatly increased the map size.

I would like to see that.

I found a video of Tropico 4: Modern Times with a population of around 5140 (population limit was modded out):

The person who made the mod claims they could reach 17,000. The game gets very unstable (read: slows down and can crash) at large populations (above 6000).

I did download the mod, but I've never tried it =P. Still, that's interesting to know.
