Hi, I tried posting this in the general sc4 forums, and was told this was the correct board.
My question is this, is it possible to have a map with 75% land/25% water, with a perfectly straight coast? I am a perfectionist, and everytime I try with the god tools, it always comes out crooked or wavy. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance for your help

Sure.  Create a jpg file in Photoshop (or some program like that) that looks the way you want. Do it in greyscale.  The shade of gray determines the height of the land.

The problem is, you need to shade gradually at the coastline if you want to be able to place ferry terminals.  To fast a drop off and you can't put the terminal there.

I used to have some pictures that would make this make more sense.   Let's see if I can find them . . .

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

In My Opinion: working with the terrain tools is like an art; it takes a bit of practice and patience on the creators part.

God Mode is the way to go here, as they are more accurate than mayor mode and costs would be crazy high, due to constant tweaking.

Any grey scales that I have used will apply unwanted erosion to the shores. It will give you an exact straight coastline though and you can smooth it from there much easier.

My CJ does show some examples but not very well. Mr. Cinatit has some good ideas in his Terraforming CJ, but I no not the link.

I've found an interesting way to make a region is in the program World Machine (can be found at http://www.world-machine.com/ )

Generate a random landscape in World Machine and edit it in Photoshop. You can create absolutely incredible landscapes in that program...

I have a World Machine to Sim City tutorial somewhere... I'll have to find it and submit it.

I though I gave you fairly decent suggestions, and images, in the other thread you started at:

The images I post show shore lines that are absolutely straight, square, and level.  All shoreline lots plop easily, marina, seaport, game ferry, Pegasus ferries and fire docks, etc.

I do think it is going to be difficult to get exactly the region you want, but if you will give a detailed description of what you want, elevations, region size, city sizes, etc., I will make you a map that should satisfy you.

You might check all of MallowtheCloud's threads and tutorials, that is where I learn what little I know.
