So when the EA servers are down I can't play? If I buy the physical hard copy of the game will I still need the servers to play?

Safly its always on DRM, no mater how you get it, sucks, I know, I'm just going to wait for it to pop up on the seven seas, but thats just me.

Thats right. Seems like you rent the game. Because once EA decides to pull the plug, you're screwed.

Yes and yes you still need online to play. The game is mandatory online at all times. Although if you lose connection it still lets you play for a good 20 minutes before it kicks you and you lose your city (because it could not sync)

There is patch thats apparently incoming and Europe is about to get the game so demand is all over the place atm.

.. and if we take a look to history.. they suddenly left Simcity 4 in 2004/2005. Nobody replied, no support, Maxis just didn't take a look on their own forums anymore.

This will happen to SC2013 too. But this time, since we can not set up our own servers, everybody is screwed.

I have not had any problems with the servers, except for last night when origin failed at letting us download the game.

There are people playing right now so the servers appear to be up, but my SimCity launcher is stuck at "Checking for Updates" and I agree, this is getting downright annoying to me.  Especially more so after being a SC4 player for so many many years now and not having to deal with this whole Online DRM when it's borked so borky hard like it is now.

Seriously, I have about 30 to 45 minutes of free time right now and I'd like to play the game that I've payed for, but NO, EA deems it necessary that my game continue to check for an update but never come back with one and then even if I got into the game I already know I'd be facing a 30 minute queue like my friends are.

Even though people have been warned that the drm sucks they are still buying the game. This blows my mind. EA will be happy though all those silly consumers handing them their cash and just gobbling it all up.
