LOL, man, don't you worry not one bit.  I listen to straight up death metal/thrash metal, my favorite band of all time is Slayer with Venom in close second and Malevolent Creation at third.  I find this completely acceptable for game music.  I am throwing this into my SimCity Playlist right NOW.

You are too harsh on yourself.  You just keep on doing what you do, some will like it some will not, other will eventually who knows, it may grow on them, it did me...

If someone doesn't like this stuff you are working on and passing out for free they best just mosey along and keep it to themselves.  I am following this post and will see every comment posted here, and have little to no boundaries when it comes to those who have no respect.  I do not respect disrespect.

WOOOT! A new music a new music!

Just finished listening now. I like how you fleshed out this little track into something that, again, has a unique flavor. A city-building game is as much about old city centers and distinct neighborhoods (and countrysides) as it is about suburbs, and I feel that this track captures that in that; it's not pop music or country at any rate. Not that you shouldn't remix a track into either (or both at once heaven forbid) if you want to; it would fit for when you're zoning down endless sprawl at any rate.

As for whether people like it or not? The best way to create things, in my view, is to make them for yourself and see if other people like it as well. Pandering doesn't bode well for creativity, unless you count corporate focus groups as "creative". Keep up the good work.

Thanks Tony.  Downloaded, so I'll give it a listen now ...

Yes!  Found myself keeping time by tapping my toes.  Very effective and utterly delightful.

Thanks Tony.  Echoes of some Puccini there (Il Tabaro) perhaps.  Orchestral approach definitely put me in mind of that one act opera.

I didn't like the original files included with Biff's collection (SoundBlaster is pretty terrible, and it sounded better with an MT-80, or the Mac version which uses licensed instruments from the MT-80). Even so, the Mac version is too chipper for SC4. This might work with SC4, actually...

It's how I recall hearing them on my old Windows setups. Pretty nostalgic to me. :P Great work as always cromabianca, I shouldn't even have to tell you to keep it up these days. I'm wondering if you're still working on the 688(i) stuff, though.

If you've never seen a performance of Il Tabaro, I strongly recommend it.  Since you are in Italia you shouldn't have any problem finding a performance of the Triptych.  You might enjoy an evening of grand guignol.

    {for other readers, Puccini's Triptych consists of three one act operas - Gianni Schicchi, Suor Angelica, and Il Tabaro representing comedy, pathos, and horror.}

well, the Red Priest is OK, but you should take a look at some of the others.  To be comprehensive you should start with Monteverdi and come forward to at least Puccini, and beyond.

It is an interesting odyssey into secular music starting in 1604 with La Favola D'Orfeo.  If you only go for the vocal stuff it should keep you entertained for a year or more.  The 40 second overture to the Orfeo is hot stuff.

And tell me I'm not the only one who thinks cromabianca should be a film score composer.

Film score?  That's a really big task.  Examples: Erich Korngold, Richard Addinsell, Leonard Bernstein.  Writing a film score is about the same as writing a symphony.  Just listen to the score of Gone with the Wind, A Christmas Carol, or On the Waterfront some time.

Tony, I don't want to discourage you.  You can be what you want and go where your talent takes you.  How about posting one of your longer works?

    Film scores?

    Woah! Go easy guys!!

In order to get into the movie industry, you basically need two things: talent and luck (and a great deal of it too!!). Now let's face it: there's a lot of very talented people out there, most even with the right connections... which makes the odds for me getting into it, pretty low! Although, maybe (and I say maybe...) there was this producer not too long ago that spoke to me about a project, a TV Show... mmm who knows; if she wants me, I'm here!

As for writing scores for films being something comparable to writing a symphony, I totally agree (take Korngold's score for instance) and as for my longer works, as I said before, I do have lots of written music, but very little (say "nothing") recorded, so I can't really post...

I'm working on something big right now (a symphonic poem), though, and I count to have it ready for the end of June: I'll definitely post that as soon as it will be ready. I enjoy sharing with my friends!! :)

Copyright in the US, as far as I know, works much the same way, You do what Moose said, but you also register your work with the US Copyright Office. If you really want to be safe and sure, you go visit a copyright lawyer. Or something.

As for film scores, the ones I remember (and like) the most include Hunt for Red October, Apocalypse Now and Black Hawk Down, among others. Great mixes of ambient and action music, sometimes in the same pieces! You're already pretty good at that sort of thing. If film scoring is out of your reach right now, consider video game OSTs. You are, after all, already doing a bang up job with two of them. Is this symphonic poem related to either?

As for copyright, here in Italy the only thing you have to make sure of is the date you created your work on, so in case of a litigation you can demonstrate of being the person who actually created the work... for the mere fact that you did it first (yeah, something like that)! You can accomplish that in many ways, one of them is "Agenzia delle entrate" (the revenue service) time stamps. My accountant is a registered "time stamper" (I wouldn't know how to put that in english... :P ), so that's how I usually do it! :) I'm also a member of the Italian society of author and editors (the SIAE, the official copyright agency), but you only really need that (it's actually mandatory in such a case) if you want to go commercial (i.e. selling your music).

As for film scoring, as I mentioned before there is this actress I knew a few weeks ago who is writing something for the TV (a mini) and she spoke to me about the music for it... so... who knows! :) Of course I would love that! :D

No, Biff, the Poem I'm writing (more of a Suite, actually) is nor movie or game related: it's something I'm doing for a series of conferences which will require a piece of music each session (ten sessions - ten passages) as a music introduction. The thing is coming up pretty satisfying, I must say... I'll post samples soon! ;)

Good that you are aware of the copyright stuff, Tony.

"Time stamper" - "stampato di tempore" perhaps?  Probably not.  Technical Italian can be quite surprising.

Most people who don't know Italian (mine is very old and rusty) are blown away when they find CPU comes out to be elaboratore.  It is utterly amazing what a commercial translation service does with a computer technical manual, at least in the 1960s it was.

I like the new song! As I understand there are a couple of more recent subsims that have good-quality music such as this. I need to do the research, though...

Are you going to remix the SimCity Classic MIDI I gave you? Again, feel free to take your time if it means you're enjoying doing this quality work. I might be able to provide MIDIs from the other classic Sim games such as SimAnt, SimLife, SimEarth, SimFarm, the three songs from SimTown and POSSIBLY SimIsle, among others. (I wish SimTower had an actual soundtrack.) I also have the original MIDIs for DOOM, DOOM II, Duke Nukem 3D and some of the original music that Robert Prince composed for Wolfenstein 3-D if you feel like remixing those. I know others might have remixed them before, but if you really want to you could put your own spin on them.

Also, I updated my collection. You might want to go and check it out.

Carry on.  I don't know many living composers to speak to these days.  Getting old really limits the number of good people you know.

Hello all, I've been downloading beautiful works from ST/Exchange but have never paid a visit to this forum. Somehow the music brought me here :P

Fantastic work. City Shimmy made me cry when I was 5, and it is making me cry after almost 18 years. I just want to say thank you!
