How do you get to high density? I can get to medium, but after that all my ploppables (if it is indeed ploppables that increase happiness and thus increase density) don't seem to work nearly as well.

You need the hide density roads which are not available in the beta.

That... should have been far more obvious. Thanks. I guess there's no such thing as as silly question, just feeling silly when it's answered :thumb:

But am I correct in observing/guessing that plopping parks and other 'land value' structures actually increases happiness?

    Yes.

Government buildings and others do as well.

i noticed casinos seem to boost commercial happiness - don't see why =/ it adds crime and sucks away people's cash which is a bad thing for shops surely.

Because it brings in tourists from other towns who spend cash at the shops.

Has anyone else noticed that the small $ park doesn't give an immediate happiness boost? Is this a bug, or intentional?

I'm trying to figure out how to get a city filled with apartments. Even with parks, public services, mass transit, and proper roads, most of the city stays filled with low density houses and shops. I'm wondering just how much it takes to get a whole block of brownstones or whatever.

Generally speaking I find having brownstones isn't all that hard as long as the housing block has a $$ park by it and a medium road. Sadly I cant show you my configuration but suffice it, its simple really. Basically to control how your city looks , you just need control over transportation, landvalue and services. I wish you could see my circular road with apartments, Its beautiful!

I was able to get high end townhouses, mansions and apartments in my second play!

I also fell just short of 30,000 pop.!

I would have done better if it wasn't for that asteroid shower that plummeted my city.

I found out debris can damage your roads!

I also had my commercial develop into a big motel, decent office buildings thanks to my massive casino expansions!

I also had my sims demand an expo center and a community college!

Size of the parks will determine how big of a boost you get!

I need March 5th to come soon!

Seems like I always hit the 1 hour wall just as my city is about to get out of its small town phase. I nearly was able to unlock the casino HQ but couldn't hit the profit target in time.

the $$ parks help a lot. problem is, they're extremely awkward in how they are placed. it never lets me plop them in the way that i want to.

Remember if you cant plop a park exactly where you want, use dirt roads! They essentially allow you to plop a park anywhere. Consider them road access just like a normal park. At the moment I am starting to realize just how simplified they made the demo. There are no resource requirements like in the main version of the game. You dont need resources to power your plants, you dont need anything really. I think people will be in for a surprise when they play the main version.

I agree with the resources. It will be interesting since everything right now seems to be free. Whenever I needed coal at my coal powerplant, it didn't take out any money at all. So it could make it interesting once you add in the prices for resources.

I supposed they had to make it free since we don't have access to the global trade network or the region. I can imagine the impact of not having resources at first wont be to bad. Since the global market will be flush with resources. Give it awhile though. Once less people are joining the game and resource levels go down. Ah! Then the fun begins. Still really depressed they didn't include agriculture.

Actually my oil plant had to have shipments from the global market once it ran low on oil.

It costs me 12k to refill the oil.

I think you have to get the higher tier upgrades on the townhall to get the larger densities

    Plus the roads off course

Interesting. Id imagine the imports are from a fixed price source. Very cool info! Honestly I am having so much fun today. I tried to drain the map of all water. Haha, I managed to put a small dent in it in a hour. :D
