Trying to alter the config of the Greater Vancouver Region, didn't work...

Hey, I absolutely love that map, but it occured to me that all the best locations lies between city maps. So I figured that if I made a rim of medium city maps around the edge, it would shift all the remaining large maps one half inwards. So I did that, but then it won't render and I wonder why? It says that the region size (gray scale) suddenly is incorrect, that it is 5377x2561 (which it is), but should be 5249x2433. I don't understand why it would alter the gray scale requirements, just because you repaint the config... The config file is still 84x40. So I go to paint, because that's the only image editor I currently have, since I'm not really into that $%&^! and just reinstalled Windows. Rescaled the gray scale to 5249x2433, as the game wanted, and tried to load it in the game, but nothing happened, not even an error message. How come? Was the grey scale broken? I know you can alter configs, but how? I can render the map it if I leave it unaltered though, but I just wanted to try out a different layout for once.

If it is asking for a different sized config.bmp, that means you accidentally changed the size of the one you are working with. Looking at the sizes you say its asking for, it looks like you somehow shaved one pixel off each side of the config.bmp when you repainted it. When you resized the greyscale to match it failed because the dimensions of your blue area are probably no longer multiples of 4. (i didn't look at your file, just going by what you said).

Go back to the original config and greyscales, paint over the original config.bmp again and be sure not to accidentally change the image size and everything should work fine.

I haven't quite installed it yet but the new SC4 Mapper 2013 claims to be able to alter your maps, just like you want. Being able to delete or maybe even add to the config with an overlay of the map

Nono, the config.bmp size was the same before and after, 84x40. Pixels don't just dissappear in Paint, even though it's crap, unless you crop it. The game was asking for a different sized grayscale.

But, nevermind, resolved the issue with SC4 Mapper and got a much better config.bmp layout too. Amazing tool.
