I was going to put this in my BAT thread but I can't seem to access it. It's the 'Cataclaw's BAT Thread'.. has it been deleted or something? 42.gif

Anyway, here's my new BAT, #3 in my Quebec/Canada series.

Name: Tour de la Bourse
City: Montreal, Canada
Height: 190m
Rank: 4th tallest in Montreal, 13th tallest in Canada
Primary use: Montreal Stock Exchange
Year: 1993

After about 4 hours, this is what i've got:

--------

Another 5-6 hours later, we have:

Darn SC4 squashing perspective. Should is tretch it out to 120% or something?

    Hi everyone,

I've made several major changes to the BAT these past few days, though it may not look like much in the screen shot below:

    1. Rebuilt the main walls almost from scratch, optimizing the latice work this time, thereby greatly reducing the poly count (was a ridiculous 126,000 first time around, now it's ~60,000)

    2. Added a slight curvature to the walls (as in real life)

    3. Found a picture of the roof, at last. I'm in the process of reworking the roof to match the image i found. Horay!

    4. Tweaked the twenty or so custom textures for a third time. I think i'm getting closer to the real-life colours of the Tour de la Bourse!

I have to ask; have you stretched it slightly to compensate for the game making buildings look stumpy?

You should really turn off the mesh smoothing on the corner columns-- it's making them look curvy when in real life they are nicely streamlined. But other than that, looks great!

I agree with most of the comments, although i believe that some compensation needs to be made w/ the height which will look better that way. also, it may be too curved, but i think it looks great, and it will be perfect. i believe that this is one of the most unnoticed buildings in montreal, but if it's as good as your last one, then you should be fine

Yes i will compensate for the squashing height factor. As for the curvature, it isn't too much, trust me. From the perspective angle, it may seem a tad bit more than real life, but from the in-game orthographic projection view, it looks great.

I'll post a rendered shot soon..

I reduced the antenna height 30% and the width 60%

Added a ton of roof junk, made a dozen new custom textures (entire BAT is custom 5.gif) and now it's time to work on the base...

    Hi Cataclaw,

I would like to know what you intend to do with the last row of pannel near the top (see the picture). I'm not sure that applying a texture only will simulate them well.

zmveliger: You've got a good eye, indeed those panels are different... but don't worry, I had already seen them and was planning a custom texture.

Hi Cataclaw, I'm not really shy. I just noticed that many BATers don't accept comments as you do. So I'm just cautious with the firsts posts... but I'm neither evil 11.gif so you don't have to be worry!

Keep going with your good job! 29.gif

OMG, one time, one time it actually happened that a long-lost thread was not bumped by some stupid, but actually revived by the creator - and with a nice bang, I should add! 6.gif

This tower looks almost perfect and will make a superb CO$$ IMHO.

Just tone down those rails for the window-washing crane a tiny bit and add the crane itself, then you're done. Oh, is the entrance just not visible on your screenshot, or is that left to do, too?

Well, now I'm off to Wikipedia to see what Crohn's Disease actually is - anyway I'm very glad to see that you recovered and that you haven't lost your interest in BATting! It would have been a shame, seeing how much talent you got. 1.gif

Its great! its wonderful! bellisimo! you really show some skills here, I really do enjoy your work, and your textures are great too. But I cant help thinking that those spots on the night light become just a little too much against the base....

still, keep up the good work 4.gif

    thanks for the kind words

i've reduced the bright lights on the corners just a tad.. thought it was bright too.

the base is visible and complete, but the maxis-angle™ obscures it a bit.

render is in progress on my other box atm. should be available in a few hours.
