Even if you do happen to encounter any issues running it on a Windows 7 system, you can always set it to play in Windows XP (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode. It probably won't be necessary, but at least it's there as an option.

Do not buy the game on disk. Get the Deluxe digital download version from Gamersgate, Amazon, Steam or Origin (in order of preference). This version (641) is fully patched and diskless for operation.

If you do want to run it on Windows 7 and your computer has multiple processors, make sure you set the processor preference in the SC4 shortcut to -CPUCount:1. SC4 doesn't seem to like to run on multiple processors. I have been running SC4 on Windows 7 for several months with no issues. It actually is more stable on my Windows 7 computer than it was on my Windows XP machine. However I attribute this to the larger memory than to the operating system.

If you do want to run it on Windows 7 and your computer has multiple processors, make sure you set the processor preference in the SC4 shortcut to -CPUCount:1.

To clarify, this goes at the end of the "Target" line in your shortcut.

SC4 doesn't seem to like to run on multiple processors.

Actually, SC4 doesn't mind running on multiple cores (real or virtual) at all - it simply needs to be told that they're there. Instead of the '1' in "-CPUCount:1", you can put any number up to the number of virtual cores you have, and SC4 will run fine. Due to the way Turbo mode runs on Intel processors, though, you may run a bit faster if you use '1'.

I have been running SC4 on Windows 7 for several months with no issues. It actually is more stable on my Windows 7 computer than it was on my Windows XP machine. However I attribute this to the larger memory than to the operating system.

I have also found that SC4 is more stable under Windows 7 than under any other OS I have used. However, this does appear to be due to the overall stability increase in Windows 7; I had no shortage of memory previously.
