Question about avenues

Hey I'm new here, sorry if I'm supposed to search but I couldn't find an answer anywhere.

Anyway, I'm trying to build a massive city with inside one of the large zones. I've got about 60,000 people using the subway, 40,000 using the ferry which is connected to other regions, but my roads are reaching the point of being completely clogged. What is the most efficient grid pattern for using roads? Is it possible for me to use ONLY avenues instead of just two lane roads? I tried using only avenues in one corner of the map and am unsure if it is doing any good, there seem to be too many intersections.

Welcome to Simtropolis Forum then..and take it easy, this is the right place to ask... :)

Upgarding the roads to avenue or one-way road is my suggestion to deal with traffic.

Do you have NAM installed??

Usually what most people will do is build a grid pattern with avenues spread out one way, and a combonation of one way roads and regular roads perpendicular to the avenues. I prefer not to build along the avenues and use the one ways and roads for the zoning access. The Network Widening Mod, or NWM, is also great for providing many different type roads to choose from and the intersections work well in my humble opinion. I really enjoy all the different Turning Lane peices they have. Also, try checking out some real life downtown grid patterns, might give you an idea or two to try out. Good Luck, : )

No, I have not downloaded any mods. I know I should, but I'm afraid I'll screw something up.

    Thanks for the answers.

I highly recomend that you install NAM,..and don't be afraid of screwing something up, as long as you have a back up.

This NAM won't screw anything, it will help you a lot with your traffic problem.

But, it's only recomendation, you can either follow our suggestion or follow your own will.

Glad to help you. Don't hesitate to post any question when you in trouble.

    Greetings from Simtropolis forum. :)

Hi, I am also a newbie and a computer illiterate. I was encouraged to install NAM and after a taking a huge breath I installed it... and... and... everything worked fine!!! It was quite simple even for me and nothing screwed up. So go ahead... soon you'll be downloading buildings and stuff and just breezing through it!

    Merry Christmas!

This made me smile. :) But it's true, even if you don't know your way around computers too well, the installers of all the popular mods will lead you through the processes just fine, the great people behind them tried to leave as little room for error as possible, and it shows.

Let's not rush into things. The NAM has a requirement that your game be at least up to version 638. Before you rush off to install plugins make sure this is the case. You can check by finding the executable program (if you look in your shortcut at the properties, you'll see where it is in the Target line). With windows explorer, move to this file and hover your mouse over it. It should give you the version number. Machines earlier than Vista will need to right-click and open the properties pages.
