How to make a model of a bell using Gmax ?

I would make a curved line first (the bell's surface outline) and then use the Lathe modifier (a bell is a rotational shape).

Otherwise you could try making a cylinder or cone (with many height segments) and then apply multiple Mesh Edit modifiers and use the soft selection feature to deform the object as needed.

I prefer the first. There is no question that bells are turned, so why not do what comes naturally?

Thanks for the comments, I'll try to make it now. I have one more question, how to make a glass with a hole (a round hole) in it ?

easy, first create the glass or wall or whaterever "thing" you want to have a hole in.

    - then create a "cylinder" of the size (diameter) of the hole you want

    - turn the cylinder 90 degrees so it will be horizontal to the wall. the length is not important as long as it is longer than the glass is thick.

    - place the cylinder through the wall (glass), sticking it out at both ends.

    - click and choose the wall and under the "standard primitives" on the right, choose "compound objects".

    - below choose "boolean" and then click on "operand B"

    - then click on the cylinder which will disappear and leave a hole in your wall.

    Hope that helps

Easy for one to say. How long did it take you to figure it out?

The boolean method is a quick and easy to get the result you want, but eventually it will become a hindrance depending on the complexity of the part you are making.

If I am making a circular hole in something I line up a cylinder against the place I want the hole, usually 8 sided, and deform the topology on the by dragging the vertices onto the cylinder using vertex snaps. This creates a perfect circle with clean topology that can be edited further. I believe I have a short picture tutorial either in my thread or in one of my other tutorials.

If it is something that just needs to be a hole, then boolean works great, though.

    Oh darn!

I never said that it was easy to figure out, it is easy to do once explained as I did. I never figured it out neither btw, someone told me how to and that was easy. ;)

For the bell: Spline > Lathe > Shell > Edit Poly if you need it > Smooth.

For the hole in the glass wall, I'd just create the shape (attach inner circle to outer glass shape) and extrude it. The middle part will automatically be 'cut out'. Boolean is unnecessary in this situation. If you want to go the all quads route, do something like what Darn said, although it will take longer.

I just try to make a bell using the lathe modifier and the result is satisfying. I haven't trying the boolean method though.

Thank you, those helps are useful.
