Usually it is in C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe but if you got your system later than XP the path may be a little different. Right click on your shortcut and ask for Properties to verify where it is. It belongs one directory above the executable (i.e. not in ..\Apps).

Be darned careful with this. You are playing around in the operating system section of the game. Be sure you back up a copy if you are trying to install things there.

if i were you, i would uninstall sc4 and then reinstall, be sure that you back up your regions/plugins folders before doing so...(reinstalling stuff for one file.... what a pain)

if i'm not mistake, it's in the game directory, either in

    \Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4

    \Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe

but if you're having trouble just reinstall,

before installing again make sure to delete the original game directory folder to make sure, but keep the saves

Not true - you can install any plugins you want in the Plugins folder under Program Files. The DAMN Menus are required to be installed there, and they are neither a background nor a DLL. As for everything else, there are two good reasons for using this Plugins folder: 1) Plugins installed here will be available to all accounts on your machine; and 2) The game does seem to load a bit faster if plugins are installed here rather than in the Documents tree.

I personally don't use the Plugins folder under Documents at all, except for testing.

All very well if you have a single user machine. Is it fair for the system administrator to impose his plugins on everyone else?

My situation is a little different because I have to reinstall the game if I want to test with a new version of wine (Linux). Therefore, all my plugins are installed in the user area to simplify this. It is also the reason I don't monkey with the guts directories, as it is just too much maintenance.

I wouldn't dream of doing that! But you're right, I have a single-user machine. Nevertheless, I have multiple accounts, and it's nice for them always to have the same plugins.

I too have several accounts on my single user machine, but each has its own set of plugins because I experiment with different environments. I also have two versions of my O/S with different stuff loaded. In fact, since wine creates a "wine prefix" containing all the windows stuff, I actually use my installer to reinstall the game for each prefix. This saves messing around with the pseudo-registry that is kept by wine for each prefix as well. Initially, it is a bit of a nuisance, but one must do what is necessary if one wants to fool around.
