Specific Lagging

    Hi all,

I seem to be having a problem with one of my cities; or rather one of the tiles in one of my cities, or even one specific area on one of the tiles in one of my cities. The area with the problem is below:

    erra.jpg

Since expanding my suburbs I have had a problem with it. As a zoned I noticed that as I released my left mouse button to zone the game would seem top freeze. The larger the zone the longer the lag, sometimes up to 30 or 40 seconds. As you can image it took much longer to zone than it should have. Then as I begain the simulation and increased the speed to maximum the problem really hit. I could move smoothy and zoom freely whilst paused but once the simulation began and homes were built the game lagged and lagged. Each new home that was built lagged the game by around 10 seconds and with the number of homes being built at once this was a huge effect.

I've noticed that there is lagg too when placeing parks etc in this area too. It makes the game very unenjoyable and almost impossible for time to pass. A single sim day, which usually passed in a fraction of a second, now is lasting between 5 - 15 seconds. Does anybody have any idea what could be causing this? It seems to be only this specific area, other tiles are not effected including much larger cities nearby.

Its driving me crazy! Thanks guys!

The problem could be related to your plugins. As more plugins that you have and your city is bigger, than the game speed will drop. I'm not sure if there is a way to fix this problem, but to make sure that CTD will not easily happen, i would recommend Daeley's Save alarm and don't be hurry in making a city. Keep the game speed at normal and do not zone a very large area in a moment because as the building start to grow, they will grow instantly in the same time and may cause the game itself become overwhelmed and the speed drop and CTD risk is high.

Btw, it seem that you zone the whole city instantly and that may become the factor of your problem. Don't zone too large in the same time and keep the game at slow/normal speed might help. However, if the problem only happen with that city and not with any other neighbor cities, than it may become a very different story.

Jason leo is quite right. Your city is what I call "over zoned". This is just asking your system to run out of CPU, and there is nothing you can do about it if you operate the game that way. This is a simulation, and it has the usual exponential curves that bog down your processor if you overload it. Instant gratification is not what this game is about.

Had a look at this further today, found my issue ended up to be what nox0r is refering to here:

Anyway, deleted the avenue links and instant gratification was mine. The whole thing developed in about 30 seconds and I could get on with the things I found much more enjoyable in one of my other cities now I had a stable population base. Seems the processor as I guessed was absolutly fine and seems to be a problem with the avenue. Big thanks to CaptCity in that thread for the guidence.
