Yarrow

Welcome to Yarrow. A city of 175,000, with 72,000 Commercial Jobs and 54,000 industrial Jobs.

High in high tech industry, there is a constant boom and bust cycle within the city concerning the wealthy citizens. They have come recently, but a lot of left en masse because of the rail and subway congestion I am having.

I have a very extensive rail and subway system

The rail was used initially as the main mode of transportation, but as the city grew in the last fifty years there has been a paradigm shift to subway which brings us to this grid we have today

Washington Hill. A quaint little place where I initially decided to implement a satellite no commute commercial centre. I would let them live and work in the same place, with rail transport to take them wherever they wish. They clamored for a subway extension to their city, and since then the place has steadily grown as a hub for middle class sims to feel a little rich.

Old Yarrow. Back when this was a suburb, this was a project designed to have be the first financial sector in the city. I planned to put some sims to the north, where they could take a short train ride to work. Over time, this proved too small to be the main financial sector but is still an important area for commerce in the city. It being across the river from washington hill has provided close commute times and less pollution for everyone

The Marx plaza, being a high tech industrial hub, was designed to be in the mountains for fresh air, and great landscapes for the geniuses that live there. Connected by a subway and rail, It's closest neighbourhood is Washington Hill, and it grew to be the largest hub in the city for High Tech industry. As it grew the city college was built there to encourage students to check out the best jobs the city has to offer. A large sect of workers in this area decided to move here, and the residential population remain local, barracading themselves from the city. A large part of the city that work in finance hear rumours about this place, one of them being the google plex scouting for locations....

The name comes from the founder of the mountains, Marx. Irony for working in a free market with a communist name makes all the local sims snicker and accept anyone who understands the irony

The Yarrow Flats is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city. Once a suburban grid dedicated to single family homes, the area has been gentrified to accomodate the demand for the growing financial sector in the area. The neighbourhood has gone through increasingly larger infrastructure rebuilds, and the most recent has seen 3 railroad stations built in close proximity to accomodate the large influx of sims flocking to the new area.

However some sims have left the place as the financial sector has grown farther south then they are willing to commute. The rich sims not willing to leave their low density homes were soon bought out and replaced with high tech industry. As some sims went to the local university and decided to stay, others left, and now we have the abandoned apartment that has been left as a token of what used to be

Westmount industries was built as an extension of the silicon flats area as the demand for high tech grew. The solar plants were to create jobs in the neighbourhood as well as spurn high tech growth surrounding the peninsula. The research centre was built as a major jobs centre for the sims wanting to work at Marx Plaza but could not afford it

The Yarrow financial sector was meant to replace Old Yarrow's financial sector as the demand grew and the land became increasingly harder to find. Close proximity to the airport to the west, coupled with an experiment of being initially connected only by rail, then by subway, and after 40 years finally by rail has led to a strong commercial area where some sims eat and breathe and never leave their work.

So this is Yarrow. A growing city with a lot of growing pains. As a beloved mayor I know I can do more, and greatly appreciate input
