Actually today there were an earthquake in Cali, Colombia, of magnitude 7.1 richter.

I can now officially say i lived through an earthquake :bunny:

i slept through it.

Shaky Ground

What's your opinion, how do you felt it? Try to imagine one of magnitude 6, 7 or 8 richter.

But I suppose the source of the earthquakes of North Texas are different from a common earthquake in seismic zone, or could be related with New Madrid?

As I remember another topics like this in ST, I think it is becoming something common. Take precautions.

North Texas never had a history of earthquakes until several years ago. I felt one myself a couple of years ago. Apparently they are due to all the natural gas drilling.

Earthquakes in Deep Texas!...well, it is 2012, the Year of the Apocalypse...

Of course, all of us do not need to *imagine* a Big One, as we got a fearful spectacle of it last year when the Tohoku Earthquake made skyscrapers groan and "dance" in distant Tokyo...

Eeeep! Barf...

We can only hope our towers in Dallas are as well engineered. Wonder what is was like helplessly swaying about up there.

"There has just been an earthquake...Stay Calm...The crashing sounds you are hearing are the elevators plummetting to the bottom..."

Eeeep!

    Fraking?

    that's the theory.

either the pumping of massive amounts of water into the wells or the removal of said water and pressure changes causing settling.

As the latests strange earthquakes in the Gulf of Mexico. Is a logic explanation.

Matthew 24:7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Mark 13:8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.

Luke 21:11 And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

We see more every year. Look up Christian for your redemption draweth nigh! :)

Very consistent quotes. You have to realize that all the Gospels were written with reference to the others that existed at the time. Sounds like a set of direct quotes.

There is a good chance that these quakes are caused by manipulation of the sub-strata to extract hydrocarbons. I don't think any particular religious implication can be taken. Man, as usual, is being inhumane to man.

We had a similar one hit Norway a few months back, around 3.1 as this one too. It's nothing really.

Yes, there is a "good chance" that it is happening because of many things. Someone does not have to tug on a rotten rope hanging from a tree for it to eventually break and fall to the ground. Some things happen with time or are simply allowed to happen.

As for the Bible, it was written over a period of 1,600 years by many different authors. Almost everything in the New Testament can be found in the Old Testament either as Law or Prophecy. However, carnal minds cannot understand Spiritual matters my friend. Their understanding is limited to ONE view of this world, the things in it and its working.

We obviously see things VERY differently as is each ones right to do.

@Jim14409: Finding references in any sacred text is fairly easy with hindsight. The problem is that these are all treatises on ethics and morals, and generally have no valid predictive properties. I am not looking forward to the apocalypse in my lifetime, and I don't believe anyone else should either. It's like having one foot in a bucket all the time. Live an upright life and let the chips fall where they may.

And Dallas is definitely a drivers place, hardly any mass transit here.

though how they knew that 2000 years ago is a mystery.

From 2012 superstition to the Bible. Ok, this is too much. Today we have a better record of earthquakes just because we have the technology to record that, doesn't mean nothing or could be relevant for some prophets. In every place of the world there are earthquakes, there are placer were they're more stronger, others were not. To be or not to be a seismic zone doesn't mean that there never will be an earthquake, the lands far to the border of tectonic plate are not isolated from the rest of the system of the Earth.

Don't look into the religious or superstitious stuff, don't complicate your life and the others life ¡No le busquen tres pies al gato!. There is a reason for everything, and the earthquakes in North Texas or could be because the human activity, fraking, or could be because there are an event of tectonic and seismic indole. The Earth is a living planet, we shouldn't take surprise of this, only take precautions: is more better to stay prepared for this kind of events, specially if you live in a seismic place.

Welcome to the club! I slept through the Boxing Day quake in 2004. I was awake for the Opunake earthquake this year.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.
