It has come to the point of having to rebild my PC...

If I backup mydocs\simcity\*.* is that all I need to keep my regions and all my plug ins? Or do I need to back and restore anything else?

I'm using SimCity4 deluxe LHD on Windows 64bit

Thanks

Yes provided you do a complete reinstall on your new machine.

make it easy like i did. export Simcity registry and place is in your simcity directory folder. Copy everything to other drive and u can rebuild your new rig. When your new pc done just double click simcity.reg. Your simcity is ready! *Make sure you copy back your simcity in same directory or just edit the .reg file.

For this to work you also need to copy C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe folder and restore it as well. This avoids running the install.

If you run the install, the registry will be set up and you only then need your data area plugins and regions. Use the total save method if you have items installed in the game like the CAM.

I recently had my hard drive reimaged and the operating system reinstalled. I had backed up my game files on My Documents but I had to reinstall the game before playing it again. I backed up my registry before the drive reimaging but I was told the registry would be no good unless all programs and settings I had were restored exactly as they were, which would be an impossible task, and restoring my old registry would severely affect my computer's performance. So I had to reinstall the programs I had on, including the game.

True. You have to make a selective save of only the registry entries relevant to the game. Not very difficult using regedit. However, simply reinstalling the game sets up the registry and then you can reload your saved data files.
