Hello, and welcome to my first CJ, Petropavlovsk: A Journey into the Siberian Wilderness!

My SimCity 4 is not heavily modded (at least by what I've seen in other CJs around here); I just have the NAM and RHW mods, with a few residential building packs (see the end of this post for all of the stuff I'm using.

Let's get going, into the vast unknown of the Siberian wild...

PETROPAVLOVSK: A JOURNEY INTO THE SIBERIAN WILDERNESS

UPDATE 1 - SETTLEMENT

A lone ship travels the ocean, carrying adventure-seekers, and people who wish to start a new life in a new land. This ship has traveled for weeks, looking for a suitable place to build a colony.

On the foggy morning of September 8, a sailor spots a bit of land. The ship sets course towards it, and the colonists find a densely forested area, which looks ready for colonization:

The ship continues its journey along the coast, until it finds a suitable spot to anchor.

The colonists land, and within a few days, a small street is constructed (if anyone can point me to a mod that gets rid of the pause border, it would be greatly appreciated, I think there's one out there):

Soon the path is expanded, to allow for future development, and to start exploration inland:

Within months, the colonists have set up factories to provide jobs and begin producing goods that will be needed for the expansion of the colony:

With the industry comes a demand for shops, so the products can be sold to the citizens of this new town:

Residential development allows for all of the colonists to settle down into their new home, the community of Erikstown:

An overview of the town so far:

149 Residents

49 Commercial Jobs

139 Industrial Jobs

CREDITS:

The map is called Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, and is by the Simtropolis user drunkapple.

I also use the NAM and RHW mods.

Not seen in this first update is the two sets of New York-themed row houses by the BSC LEX user marcszar.

I hope you guys enjoyed this first update to my first city journal. I'll post another update in a couple of days, or sooner if I get a lot of replies!

Markus J: Thank you! Let's hope this first little town will turn into a dream city - I think the colonists are definitely up to it.

UPDATE 2 - ERIKSTOWN IS DELICIOUS!

What is this? The colonists have built something new since the last time we've seen them:

    SimCity42012-08-1016-41-47-18.png

This new street allows the colonists to access a development that is critical for the survival of the Petropavlovskians (as they have begun to call themselves) - farms!

    SimCity42012-08-1016-43-09-93.png

The food from these farms is nutritious and grows very well on the fertile hillside of Erikstown. Soon, more residents get in on the farming business, as it is currently very profitable:

    SimCity42012-08-1016-45-10-65.png

Meanwhile, new families are formed as some of the younger colonists move out of their parents' houses, and into their own:

    SimCity42012-08-1016-46-24-45.png

Finally, an overview of the new developments in the town:

    SimCity42012-08-1016-47-33-64.png

Stay tuned for the next update: the colonists will explore the area around them, and a new development will open up Erikstown, and the rest of the region, to a rapid expansion of civilization.

    I love Siberia!

It looks good so far, I'm looking forward to see the civilisation boom in the wilderness.

As you stated you use only few mods, I think though a decent terrain mod would give a huge boost to the Siberian feeling.

    Good luck with your CJ!

    Nice start Mataby. :thumb:

You can find the SMP Yellow pause thingy remover

Also, the UDI zots can be turned off in the My Sim menu.

Looking forward to your development. :)

    REPLIES:

vivapanda: Siberia seems to be a very interesting place! Except it's a little too cold for me. And I did install a terrain mod! It's called LK Appalacian Terrain Mod, by Lowkee33. It can be found here:

http://sc4devotion.c...php?lotGET=2753 If you can suggest a better looking one, I'll gladly install it.

I've seen pics of the terrain in that region of Russia, and it looks like a temperate climate similar to New England, so why not a temperate-looking terrain mod?

7238320: Thank you! Its installed now, and it's very useful. However, for the first half of screencapping this update, I forgot to turn off the UDI zots.

:P They'll be completely gone next update, I hope!

UPDATE 3: DEVELOPMENT ON THE HILLSIDES

Since we last saw our colonists, they have built something that will change the rate of development dramatically in the Petropavlovsk region, and something has arrived on the shores or Erikstown that will provide the manpower for that development. But first, explorers have wandered into the hilly regions of what they are now calling "Kust", which in Russian literally means "hill":

    SimCity42012-08-1514-31-20-33.png

As you can see, they have built a small road into the area:

    SimCity42012-08-1514-31-39-81.png

And now for the development that will forever change the region's development...

    ...

    ...

    ...

    ...

    ...

    ....

A seaport, and a passenger ship!

    SimCity42012-08-1514-49-27-41.png

The passengers from this ship boost the economy as they build more houses and buy more things from the stores on the main street:

    SimCity42012-08-1514-51-36-22.png

Industry expands as more people come, seeking jobs and demanding products needed for everyday life:

    SimCity42012-08-1514-55-02-22.png

And in the midst of all this expansion, a fire breaks out in Erikstown! A makeshift fire department is quickly built while the fire is raging:

    SimCity42012-08-1514-56-21-22.png

    SimCity42012-08-1514-56-57-17.png

While the citizens of Erikstown are dealing with fires, the town of Kust, just next door, has started to take shape:

    SimCity42012-08-1515-00-47-13.png

And here is the industrial area, with the power lines that connect to Erikstown's power station to Kust:

    SimCity42012-08-1515-00-56-05.png

I hope to not have any of those UDI things popping up any more! Let's hope! Keep commenting, please! Anything you would like me to do, any terrain mods you want me to try out, or any buildings you'd like me to add, all would be appreciated!

That's a huge ship! It'll definately give a boost to the town, luckily they could handle the fire so quickly so they can continue expanding now. (:
