questions about mods

    Hello,

I want to create a new (8×8, 4 big tiles) region, wich will be one big city. For eye candy, I want to use some mods to make it look nicer (like NAM, RHW etc). I have some questions about those:

    1. Too many downloaded buildings (like the harbour pack) have graphical glitches (like missing textures), while they should work normally. Is this solvable using the software renderer instead of the hardware-based one? Or isn't my hardware the problem?

    2. I want those nice beaches and complicated railroads. where to download?

    3. Is there a complete package for the harbour pack?

    4. How do i build the LA river?

    5. Is there a region creation tool, like the simcity3000 map editor (but for sc4 instead)?

Thank you in advance. If I have more questions I'll post them later.

Download the dependencies. Oftentimes, you're required to download something else to make these things work, and more often than not, it's already listed in the description of the original download.

Otherwise, you'll experience the following issues:

    - Missing textures!!!

    - Missing buildings, or in other cases, boxes for buildings

    - Missing props

    - Missing plants

To answer question three, there's likely no "complete package" that includes all of the dependencies; You need to download all of the dependencies individually. (However, once you have said dependencies, you won't need to re-download them if you wish to download something else that requires the same dependencies.)

Thank you very much. That might help me out a bit. But if glithes still occur, will the software render solve anything?

Besides that, even very simple downloads (like swimmingpools or gas stations only using standard textures) show glitches (like missing props and such).

I'm at work now, so I will try within a few hours.

If anyone else has some input feel free to post.

    1. Graphical glitches can be a lot of things... As Graham stated above, most of the time it is because you're missing a dependency but it could be something else (aliasing comes in to mind). A picture will sure be of great help to identify your problem

    2. Beaches, either you download a set (others can be found, just type "beach" in the STEX) or you make it yourself with MMPs (mayor mode ploppable) like explained here

    3. Are you referring to HK skyscrapers?

    4. LA river is a set with puzzle pieces. You build your straights and corners by choosing your puzzle pieces and you lay'em down one at the time

    5. I don't remember SC3000 map editor but yes there are tools for map editing, search for SC4 mapper and SC4 terraformer

I might to be able to make screenshots later on, within a few days maybe, but I'll try to find missing dependencies first.

Thanks a lot for that link for those beaches! Also thank you for those names for map editing.

About those LA river pieces: is it similair to the roads in simcity 3000 (meaning I have to place them one by one next to each other)?

About 3: No not really what I meant (ganaram gave me a good answer already), but thank you anyway.
