This is my first BAT, my version of the huge hutchinson kansas grain elevator. Please feel free to make comments and suggestions. If you have a suggestion, then include the instructions that makes the modification. Note that this is not the final model and has not been textured yet.

I have no clue what a grain elevator is and I'm not really sure what I was looking at when I looked at pictures. But it seems that there are angular parts in the back of it, and at the top are.. windows? I saw some black squares on the top wall thing :s Oh well. Also, it seems that the cylinders become a bit bulbous at the top.

Sorry I can't help you with ways to model this though, I only know 3ds max. You can try lowering the height of the cylinder then beveling it to the full height using a series of bevels to get the bulbous shape if gmax has the bevel tool.

Oh darn!

The picture you just gave is too small, you used the thumnail picture from the preview, wich is too small to judge your model :D

But it looks good in that small picture

Sorry JWbuildings, are we speaking about this?

In any case, please upload your pics to a photo-hosting website, like photobucket, and take a preview render, rather than a screenshot.

(How to take a preview render):

-Group all the objects that make up your model.

-Scale this group vertically (Z axis)by 133%.

-Center it on your scene - "x" and "y" coordinates for the group should be 0,0

-Click on the hammer you can see at the upper right of the right panel of your GMAX window.

-Click on "BAT"

You will see a "preview" button - click it, and set your "preview" according to your wishes (e.g Z5 south preview).

Actually, it's easier done than said :).

I don't think he is using gmax. I looks like 3ds max to me. Actually you are doing the same. Just make sure you have BAT4Max installed.

Well, Max or gmax, a preview render of the whole thing is the best way to tell what's right and what's wrong. Perspective view shots, while interesting, are not going to be 100% indication of how things will look in-game...

Also, is that thing really over 1/2 mile long as indicated in a previous poster's picture? That's a specific type of BAT for a specific type of CJ'er or player - I can't imagine it being useful for a great majority of people here. Ultimately, you can BAT what you wish, and if it's useful to at least one player, then it's indeed useful - but just curious as to why this particular thing over all the other stuff you could do?

GOOD TEXTURES ARE MADE, NOT FOUND.
(I get tired of saying that in BAT threads.)

"Never keep up with the Joneses. Drag them down to your level." - Quentin Crisp
"I believe in talking behind peoples' backs. That way, they hear it more than once." - Fran Lebowitz
"Ordinary morality is for ordinary people." - Aleister Crowley
"No one ever said on their deathbed, 'Gee, I wish I had spent more time alone with my computer.' " - Dani Bunten Berry

Well from what I noticed in the preview render, and comparing it to the real life photo Francis supplied, Those cylinders need to be more triangular, not curvy.

However this may actually be good and simple project to start with in BATing. Though very huge. :P Can we see a preview render?
