Just got a new laptop (i7 2.2ghz, 630M 2GB, 4GB memory) that I plan to use 3dsmax with. Thing is though, how do you install and (utilise) SC4 and SC4TF properly on Windows 7?

Machine seems a little wimpy for 3dsMax.

To install SC4, you just install it. It will probably go into C:\Program Files (x86) ... but that doesn't matter because the correct path will be in the registry.

For a multicore machine you need the -cpucount:1 option in your short-cut. And if your display is 16:9 then you will need the -customresolution:enabled -r<width>x<height>x<colour depth>. Don't forget that each option hyphen needs a leading space.

As for Terraformer, good luck. You will have to run is as prescribed in the documentation, and may very well have to load the correct version of the Python run time.

If you want to make maps, why not use the Landscape Designer? With a little work on the generated jpg, you can get any terrain you like and not bother with after market stuff that needs so much extra software.

I think the i7 helps itself by boosting itself all the way to 3.1ghz...

I need SC4TF for realistic/to scale maps, also when I use LD, I render the greyscale into SC4TF for more accuracy and the ability to edit out unrealistic parts and make the terrain less bumpy. Is the process the same as installing TF on Vista(downloading DX9.0c and Python)?

Should be. If you are using the professional level of W7 the libraries you need may already be there. The best way to find out is to ask your machine. What happened when you tried it?
