Making a lot with an overlay texture but without a base texture?

Dear forumers,

For my city needs I'm trying to modify some eye-candy lots. What I want to do is to have a simple 1x1 lot with one diagonal totally invisible, while the other retains its texture.

Example:

ex1we.th.jpg

I'd like to get rid of those textures making a jagged effect near the highway.

So I took a simple 1x1 lot found on the STEX and started to fool around with reader and lot editor. I removed the base texture, leaving only a diagonal concrete overlay texture.

In the following image, I placed 2 of those modified lots near the FAR pieces to fill the blanks spots

ex21.th.jpg

Looks ok! But when I save the game I get this:

ex31.th.jpg

Just after save, holes appears on both sides, where the base texture is missing. However, a simple rotation or zoom change will cancel the visual glitch but only on the right side (hence it doesn't show a glitch on the right piece). Apparently if the base texture is sitting on a slope, the glitch is cancelled.

According to many tutorials I read every time you put an overlay texture without a base texture you get this problem.

I tried to avoid this by picking the code of an overlay texture and putting it instead of the base texture but the result is the same

So is it possible to make a 1x1 lot with only one diagonal displaying textures or the only way is to make it with overhanging textures?

Thanks in advance to any takers :D

Cheers

Try taking the default terrain as your base texture. Find it in the code, or just ask someone who knows, and then it will not seem jagged (RHW did this).

The city lay red...
Flaming and broken...

Then he exited to region, reloaded, and it was fine.

Interesting idea, I might dig in that direction but the problem is the appearance at different height levels

    Thanks for your answer!

I did a bit of work and found out that the default terrain is in fact a base texture! Just watch it on very high areas, where it will stand out.

You can remove the base texture of a lot with SC4 PIM: http://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=SC4PIM

Link to user's guide is included, I think what you're searching for can be found at the end of the user guide under "the better way to lot".

Thanks for your input smf, I will give it a look... But I think whatever the method used, it will lead to visual bugs when saving/entering underground view

It will. No way to avoid it. In many cases though, like with ChrisAdams gravel paths, it's worth it (IMO).
