Hi all,

I am trying to connect cities using RHW. Is there any useful guides in STEX? Tks.

In the highways menu, near the end of the RHW set, there is a neighbour connector piece. You can plop that on the end of your RHW at the city border and that will make RHW neighbour connections possible.

Yes, and make sure you understand the neighbour connectors. Gold to gold, white to white or no connection can be made.

Also make sure the lines match

Yes, and make sure you understand the neighbour connectors. Gold to gold, white to white or no connection can be made.

Technically, that's irrelevant due to the NC's bidirectional pathing. The only reason you'd do that is so that it looks right.

Nice, but doing that way, I've always got it to work.

Thanks.... I tried using the connector to connect the 2 cities...

How can the freight trucks which left city 1 does not seems to show as entering the RHW of city 2? I only cars entering the RHW of city 2 whereas there are no car leaving the RHW of city 1 for example.... so my question is the 2 cities connected?

Is there any other method which can use to connect 2 cities? using roads or highway? I preferred using RHW though as I find them cool....

    Thanks.

The program only uses freight as extra network loading in the current city. It goes into the bit bucket on leaving.

You can also use the Maxis Avenue to make a neighbour connection.

First lay down some RHW-4, leaving a gap before you get to the edge of your city.

Next lay Maxis Avenue about 3 squares from the edge to make the connection.

Now connect the RHW-4 to the avenue.

And, hey presto, you have a seemless neighbour connection.

As A Nonny Moose said though, freight does not cross the city borders. It goes as far as the edge of your city, then it disappears into the ether :uhm:

I'm quite certain that I just made working neighbour connection by dragging the RHW to the edge of the map. What is the advantage of using connector pieces?

If you're using RHW for freight trucks and ONLY freight trucks, you're good to go. 99.9999999% of the time, that's never the case.

If you have sims that work outside the city, they can only return from work using the same neighbour connection they exited from. RHW-4, for example, has paths pointing out of the city or pointing into the city, but NEVER both, so that as an NC won't work. Sims cannot just use another neighbour connection to re-enter; That's not how the game works. For freight trucks, however, all they need to do is leave the city since they don't have a return route.

NC pieces are designed so that sims can depart and return from the same NC tile, as well as "jump" to the correct side of the highway when they return.

For the record, each RHW NC arrow is indicative of what the game sees as a single RHW-2 NC, and the average RHW may have the equivalent of three to four RHW-2 NCs. Override networks inherently break these RHW-2 NCs, rendering them useless for neighbour connections, unless a specially designed bidirectional RHW piece with underground "loop" (which is what the NC pieces are) is used to compensate for that.

Good to know, I just recently got the RHW and have never really used it for a serious purpose. I was just messing around with it the other day and saw the yellow arrows and thought everything was fine. :D
