The may be useful in this case, when speaking about plain mods that "do" something in your city.

As for buildings, you should ask yourself: "What style am I looking for?" "What kind of building do I need?" Then, search for a few key words in the STEX, download and have fun!

just keep finding also if you may try the lex! on simtropolis, if you really want a bat that will blow your socks off try searching ndex for bat(s)

Exploring plugins cold is an exercise in masochism. It is important that you be organized and keep track of what you are doing. Not all plugins work together and you need to test each add. If you don't test, sometime you will get an intractable crash to desktop (CTD) and will have a horrible time sorting it out.

Meanwhile, don't be in a rush. None of the exchanges are going away soon. There is a list of preferred plugins at the top of this section, and I recommend you peruse it. There is no easy way to get this stuff. It is a lot of work, and no guarantees.
