Roll to Dodge: Cities Edition

    The rules are simple:

    1. Post an action.

    2. Your result will be determined by the roll of a die.

    3. The GM rolls the die, using random.org.

Any action that triggers a third-party influence on the player generally grants a free defence roll.

Unlike most other iterations of this game, all choices and actions must be based on governing a city. You are the mayor of your own city and other players are mayors of other cities in the same metropolitan region. The basic breakdown is as follows:

1 : Unbelievably total failure. Action WILL backfire.

    2-4 : Failure, with penalty

5-7 : Marginal failure with possible penalty

    8-10 : Failure, no penalty

    11-13 : Straightforward success

14-16 : Success, with possible bonus

17-19 : Success, with circumstantial bonus

20 : MAXIMUM POWER. Guaranteed success, with added bonus.

Under binary conditions, 1-10 fails, 11-20 succeeds.

Note that attempting an action requiring an intermediate action (i.e. constructing a subway without the necessary density) automatically fails. Also note that the same action cannot be taken twice in a row. Take heed that your GM is unstable, and may tweak the playing field independent of player actions. Almost anything goes, but be warned that metagaming will anger the GM, who may penalize you.

Each player may submit one action per turn. A turn lasts at most one day and at least until every active player has submitted an action. The game is played in rounds that last until one player annexes all the cities in the metropolitan region. Unlike most versions of this game, Roll to Dodge: Cities Edition uses a sliding scale of difficulty checks to keep this game balanced and all players begin with 0 reputation. Players with -1000 reputation or worse will automatically be annexed by the player who brought down that mayor's reputation to that level. The GM will not take responsibility for any misinterpretations made by the player.

At the start of each round, please sign up by posting the name of the city that you are the mayor (they must be original (no real cities or named cities from works of fiction are allowed)).

We will accept 10 (or more) participants maximum with me as the GM of this game. Note that the below will be used to list participating players. You can be as wacky as you want, as long as it follows the above rules. If you sign up for this game, you have to promise yourself that you have to participate until your city is annexed in game. Updates happen when all players post their actions or 24 hours since the last action was posted if there are any players who have not posted yet. Everyone begins with 0 reputation.

Here is an example of a game:

Player A: I will name my city Unopolis.

Player B: I will name my city Duopolis.

Player C: I will name my city Tresopolis.

GM: Player A is the mayor of Unopolis, Player B is the mayor of Duopolis, and Player C is the mayor of Tresopolis.

Player A: I will build a casino to lure tourists.

Player B: I will build a hospital to take care of the city's population and lower the reputation of Unopolis.

Player C: I will build a theme park to lure tourists.

    GM:

    Update 1

Player A - Mayor of Unopolis

    Original Reputation: 0

Action: I will build a casino to lure tourists.

    Roll: 11 (minimum roll: 11)

Effect: A casino is built. Difficulty check for completing projects is reduced by 2, but you lose 50 reputation per turn. Unfortunately, given the presence of Duopolis's hospital, your reputation dropped by 500, because casino patrons ended up having to go to the hosiptal.

    Current Reputation: -550

    Status:

Projects Completed: Casino (-2 difficulty check in completing projects, -50 reputation per turn)

    Ordinances Enacted: None

    Positive Modifiers: None

    Negative Modifiers: None

    Environmental Effects: None

Player B - Mayor of Duopolis

    Original Reputation: 0

Action: I will build a hospital to take care of the city's population and lower the reputation of Unopolis.

    Roll: 20 (minimum roll: 11)

Effect: MAXIMUM POWER! A hospital is built (reputation loss is halved) and Unopolis's reputation drops by 500, because many casino patrons ended up having to be hospitalized.

    Current Reputation: 0

    Status:

Projects Completed: Hospital (reputation loss is halved)

    Ordinances Enacted: None

    Positive Modifiers: None

    Negative Modifiers: None

    Environmental Effects: None

Player C - Mayor of Tresopolis

    Original Reputation: 0

Action: I will build a theme park to lure tourists.

    Roll: 1 (minimum roll: 11)

Effect: CRITICAL FAIULRE! Your theme park's roller coasters were not inspected properly, causing 50 people to die on the roller coaster. The disaster made international headlines, causing your city's reputation to plummet by 500. Not only that, there is a moratorium on the construction of entertainment venues.

    Current Reputation: -500

    Status:

Projects Completed: Deadly Theme Park (nobody wants to go there)

Ordinances Enacted: Moratorium on the construction of entertainment venues (you are not allowed to build entertainment venues)

    Positive Modifiers: None

    Negative Modifiers: None

    Environmental Effects: None

If City A has -1000 reputation and City B implemented an ordinance that caused City A's reputation to drop, then City B annexes City A. If City C has -1000 reputation, due to a bad roll, then there is another roll to see which city gets the right to annex City C. The goal is that you must be the city that annexes all other cities, but not directly.

I like your icon :D and I do not get what you are talking about. :???:

    Thank you.
