Negative Commercial Office Demand

I have a large city with about 170,000 people. Most of the buildings are skyscapers, and demand is up for everythings but commercial offices. There is a population of about 120,00 commercial buildings, and education and health are top-notch. I also have several landmarks. All of the conditions are right, and 4 cities are connected, with 7 in the region all connected. Why is the commercial office demand negative? I can't seem to get it out.

I also have lots and lots of those. Nothing, not even lowering taxes, seems to work.

Basically, you have too much office jobs. The total amount of jobs should be around half the total inhabitants, as the amount of jobseekers is "residential population/2". To get the demand back you need to grow more R$$ and R$$$ to replenish the lost CO demand.

A question. are you plopping the CO towers?

No. I don't care much for the ploppables. I grew a city next door to 205,00 residents and the demand went way up. It's down again now; guess I'll have to start some rezoning.

I keep harping on this but not many listen. They city has to be balanced. This means that if one part is out of proportion with the rest the demand will change towards the correction.

Do I have to add industry, or can I ship that over to the next city like I've been doing?

If up to you. If you have proper neighbor connections and they are not too long, you can treat the two tiles as a single city from the concept point of view, and the game load levels the demands, so it works just fine. The game is happier with a mixture of commercial and residential together. It is not a bad idea to have corner stores and strip malls in some of your residential areas. Don't forget parks and plazas.

It also does not particular harm to have some low life residential with your industry to cut down the commute for the grintz who maybe don't have cars.
