So i started 4 separate cities, one for residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural respectively, and linked them all together. It was going good up until I reached a point of about 225,000 sims... Each time I log into my commercial or industrial cities there is no demand, and when I go into my residential city the res demand is negative but suddenly the commercial and industrial demand skyrockets. I thought maybe it had something to do with demand caps? But I've placed some rewards that increase the demand for each sector but it stays the same. What's my problem? How do I grow further? Thanks in advance

Hello Bbonnah, I will try and answer your question as best as I can. First off, how is your mass transit to each of these zones? Do you have subways, buses, rails etc going to each of these place?

2nd, you have to remember how sims are especially in your residential zone. The reason your demand skyrockets up for commerce & industry is simple. They want something closer to them so they are demanding you build something there rather than travel so far for a job. The same can be said for the other zones for your commerical, industry & farms. Even though your sims are traveling over to those zones to meet a demand there is no sims in those zones to create a demand. So after some thought I would say try putting in some residential ( not alot, just a small patch) and see if that doesn't help. Remember supply & demand go hand in hand.

I have seen people do your type of setup before and besides putting in alot of mass transit they eventually had to put some residentials in those areas.

I myself tend to create one major city on either side of my region and mid size cties and town in between. My region not only grows as a whole very fast but my sims tend to flock to the cities.

Another thing is neighbor deals these can have effect as well, like trash. Is it being carried away to correct zone? There are many different ways to play this game and no matter which way its always a challenge.

    Hope I have helped.

Complete separation is very difficult. You would be much better off to have your commercial and your residential together. Big clumps of anything is just asking for trouble. Residential areas need local shops (corner stores) and strip malls. A CBD needs easy access to its employees, and I often build blocks of residential on both sides of the CBD within a couple of blocks of the main drag. Pretty much anything else is rather non-realistic.

Separating the commercial and farming pods is possible, but I like 1 x 1 R in with my farms and some 4 x 2 and 4 x 4 high rise tenements (high density) in with my industrial.

The main algorithms in the game are set up for balance across the board, so you are fighting the game when you try full separation.

    Good luck.

Keep your Residential and Commerce together, while putting Industry in a different city. Pollution doesn't spill  and it looks more real.
