City Journalers: When you do your city journal, do you ever try to make your cities genuinely "aged"?

I try to. I'm writing a journal and I try to make the city founded at a certain date (ex. year 0 at 1690). Then I try to keep the architecture true to its period and only change styles when I feel the time period fits it (so no high rises until year 1870) and a.destruction period during the World Wars, then rebuilding with more modern buildings.

I have done so the same with both of my CJ's. NoG (Nexis of Genesis) starting at year and WRP (The Winding River Project), the last one being on SC4D, starting in 1950 and being in 1967 today. Everything is also grown and very few are plopped, making this more interesting, since you ahve to adjust the story to its growings. ;)

My individual cities are rather monotonous but my oldest cities are about 500 years old. I take lots of pictures but I only keep 2 city journals (Mezaton Regional Experiments and Mezaton XL, the first Cities XL city journal, using fictional elements).

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3
