A Friendly Reminder on Behavior and Etiquette

Please be reminded that on Simtropolis we have a ZERO tolerance rule for any discussion regarding piracy, game cracks, torrents or anything similarly related.

This rule is not open to discussion and there are no ifs, ands, buts or maybes about it.

Thank you for being mindful of this when posting.

I realize recently we've been hotly debating the new SC game, which is understandable (it has been 9 years after all) and in certain amounts and manners completely acceptable.

Attacking other users, however, is NOT acceptable.

Under no circumstances is anyone here allowed to flame against someone. If someone's post offends or upsets you, walk away. Ignore it. If you absolutely feel the need to correct the person (in the case of fallacious information or the like), then do so in the most respectful and mannerly method possible.

Something like...

blahblahblah

I don't quite think that's right... I thought it was XYZ. Could you explain or provide a source please?

Easy, right? We'd like to keep this community a friendly environment. You have the privilege of expressing your opinion, but in a respectful manner. And if you don't act respectfully you might find your privilege revoked (elaboration available upon request).

And if you see someone flaming or seems to be inciting or just seems to be too upset, just report the post and we'll look into it. We're not perfect but we try our best. And sometimes you'll even find us fixing something you typo'd or mistranslated, or otherwise doing housekeeping (ie huge quote stacks).

Feel free to explain why you feel your way and go about your business. But like everything, do it in moderation. Nobody likes to hear someone who simply rants on about XYZ on the good or bad side: we get your point, you've had your turn and now let someone else have a turn .

This topic has generated much debate. We appreciate that folks have strong views.

With the release of SimCity, it has been noted that many members, old and new alike, have attempted to post comments or questions in the discussion forums, and we whole-heartedly welcome and encourage you to post your thoughts and experiences.

It has also been noted that several of these posts have been met with comments that are insulting or have all ready been made repeatedly in various other topics located in the forums. These types of comments are often entirely or partially off-topic and only serve to drive the threads in unintended directions, thus alienating the posting members and ignoring the questions or comments posted. Another observation is a tendency to initiate or enter into debates by responding to these off-topic comments. Again, this is something that leads to topics becoming cluttered or even worse. Please refrain from entering into any of these debates and use the Report feature to bring to the staff's attention any remarks that may go against the rules of the site.

To encourage a positive atmosphere in the forums, neither of the above mentioned practices should continue in order for topics to progress smoothly in a friendly manner. This is the same policy that exists in all forums on this site and will continue to be enforced.

It is time to move on and discuss what is known about the game as it is, not what it should/could/would be in topics not dedicated to such issues. It is not expected that everyone will like the game or dislike the game, but it is expected that everyone's viewpoint is respected. Simply put, make relevant comments and move on, and refrain from making statements directed at the posters rather than the topics. It is not the job of this site nor any of its members to convince or convert, but to hold meaningful and appropriate discussions about what does exist or what is presented. That is, after all, one of the objectives and strengths of this site.
