How are they getting to work - magic carpet?!

Apologies if this is a common issue or I've just made a silly mistake BUT...

How are they getting to work?

All the industries have employees.

The road continues south and joins up with the town's road network but only displays freight traffic and there is no congestion at all.

I've tried exiting and returning but it just persists.

Playing with traffic management is one of my favourite parts of the game so this is a bit annoying really.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Congratulations. You have uncovered yet another known problem in this program. Industry can run without anyone going to work and this is a bug in the game that has been there forever. There is no known fix. Just bear with it, and run your game for a while.

Oh dear. Thanks for that. If I find anything that seems to fix it, I'll post an update.

Nope, your industries don't have employees. If they display something like "69 / 72" in the query UI this means that they offer 69 out of a theoretically possible 72 jobs - the deductions are due to anything that affects desirability for the given RCI category adversely.

The route query tells you whether any of these jobs are actually filled. Judging from the picture you are showing, this is not the case.

This means that your Sims either find better suitable jobs with less commuting effort, or that the commute up to that industrial area is too long for them to consider going there at all.

I see many R§§§ mansions in the valley. Rich Sims will, of course, not work in a steel mill. If there are poorer and less well-educated Sims down there, try shortening their commute e.g. by means of a subway line that connects home and place of work as directly as possible, or try to lay out some more roads (better than streets) that go up there.

Letting the game run for a few months is always a good advice because the traffic simulator re-calculates traffic flows in regular intervals, and it takes some time for traffic routes to "settle" and for changes to take effect.

    Hi again,

Problem solved. After months of nothing happening there was a fire in a building. I dispatched a fire truck, put the fire out and BAM! 200+ cars travelling to work...

Seems a bit crazy but at least it's sorted now :)
