Constant Sc4Terraformer crash?

I keep on getting this one error. Specifically when I try to make a hill or a mountain, as soon as I click to draw another hill or mountain, the program freezes and will only stop freezing if I click on another thing to draw.

For instance:

*Clicks on Hills*

*Creates a small hill*

*Makes a small hill in another location, but program freezes as soon as I try*

*Clicks on Make Mountain and the program unfreezes*

*Clicks on Hills again, but it freezes once again*

I have no idea why this is happening. Here is the error:

Traceback (most recent call last):

File "SC4TerraformerApp.pyo", line 2203, in OnTimer

MemoryError

Thanks for the help.

Seems to me like you are running out of ram. This program is very RAM intensive. I have an issue very similiar to this but it happens if i try to draw anything. Now i form one city tile at a time and save. I stopped a lot of the crashing by reformatting and installed just terrafromer and windows 7 on my pc. That freed up a lot of my RAM.

Yes it can. I have 4 gigs of ram and a quad core CPU and it crashes all the time. Mostly what you want to look at here is how much RAM you video card has. I have a laptop with shared RAM and only 512MB of hardware RAM so that is why I have the problem. Terraformer I would suggest a video card with no less than 1GB of ram. 2+GB is probably ideal. I hope this helps and good luck! In the meantime you might want to try forming one city tile at a time and then saving your work. I am building a 324 large city tile region at the moment and that is the way I do it. It is slow going but at least it is getting done ya know? :)

    Ok, thanks.

However, my region is a large island...is there a way I can bring in the shape of the island itself without Sc4Terraformer?

If I'm able to do that, then I'm home free.

The more RAM, the better. However, there are limitations. A 32-bits Window version can only handle 4 GB of RAM (including video RAM and other RAM that is reserved for other things). Any 32-bits application running under Windows 32 or 64-bits can only handle files that take up less than 2 GB when opened. So if your region is very large you may run into memory limitations even if you have a zillion of GBs of RAM installed.

Excellent point. I've been running 64bit OS's for years. I thought 32bit was maxed at 16gb but like I said, haven't used them in a long time.

You can configure the region with sc4 mapper or even region generator and form it with the basic maxis tools in game but this still doesn't solve the RAM issue. The best thing I can tell you to do is get a program called 'kill process' found at http://majorgeeks.com This program will kill most processes associated with windows except the very basic must have processes thus freeing the all important RAM they hog. To be honest that's like putting a bandaide on a bullet wound but it might help. Really the only solution to this problem I see is get a system with atleast 16gb of ram and a 64bit OS - that's what I am currently building - if you are serious about getting into terraformer and creating regions by hand.

    I do have Windows 7 64-bit.

Sc4Mapper won't even open for me, so that's out of the question :P

I won't be able to order a new computer for a long while, however. I'll try out this KillProcess program...it's safe, right? xD

Do you think I can import a Greyscale, as another option?

    Thanks again :)
