Eudoria: Trully Genesis

Long ago in the year 2015, Earth was in complete disarray. Paramilitary factions had done the unthinkable. What we do know is that a rogue military force was able to assault and secure nuclear warheads slated for decommission in what was the former USSR. The target? Well that is unknown to even us. We do know they set of the first blasts. NATO responded with ICBM's of their own. After that it was counter attack after counter attack. The population of Earth was essentially wiped out. Those that survived the initially onslaught were left with radiation poisoning. That left mankind with one hope of survival, Poseidon 1, mankind's moon base.

Poseidon 1 was a joint effort between the United States, European Union, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Canada. The Joint Space Agency, or JSA, had planned for it to be utilized as a staging ground for future missions to Mars and Uranus. Now it had a new purpose. It was to provide support for the expansion and recolonization of the human race to a more suitable planet.

Calypso was a planet just 3.3 lightyears from Earth discovered in late 2012. The planet itself had a nickel and iron core with a nitrogen and oxygen atmosphere. Perfect for human survival. It was a dream planet. There was just one catch. Calypso was 100% water. The team at Poseidon was now the defacto leaders of the human race. The engineers came of with a plan. Satellites with terraforming capabilities would be sent along with engineers, geologists, survey teams and security personnel to Calypso to terraform the region to create a new colony for our people. The regions name would be Eudoria and the cities name Atlantis - in honor of the legendary city which disappeared into the ocean long ago.

My job was to create the draft for the region and transfer all data collected into the computer systems and direct the satellites to form it to scale. I was essentially the urban planner. It was a daunting task not just for me but for everyone involved. We had just lost our home, our families and everything that made us who we were. We were now something different, the saviors of the human race. This was to be our legacy.

Late one night in the dining facility of Poseidon I drew up a rough copy of what was to be Eudoria. At first it didn't look like much on paper. Then, as terrain features were added and the layout was discussed with the Eudoria Board of Development (EBD) the layout and structure became apparent. It was envisioned to be a melting pot of both urban and rural area's. We would rely on clean energy rather than fossil fuels to power our city. Our vehicles would be more energy efficient than their earth ancestors. We had to ensure that mankinds previous mistakes were not made here again. We, would do it better.

Here is a rough copy of what i drew up in the dining facility that night. Better known as phase 0.1

Phase 0.1 has been completed and phase 0.2 is currently in progress. 0.2 is the rough shape of the land laid out and 0.3 will be the addition of terrain features such as mountains and lakes. More to come at the halfway point of 0.2

The satellites arrived July 1, 2016. In the time from the war to then we were able to lay out some of the region and transmit the layouts to the satellites while they were enroute. Once the were released and put into stable orbits they went to work. We knew we had to hurry, the power plants on the satellites were running on nuclear fusion reactors. It was such tremendous power packed in such a small space but even we knew that such power, no matter how enormous, would eventually run out.

Ultimately I was put in charge over everything. The EBD would be there to advise me on courses of action but ultimately every descision was my call to make. The terraforming had to go on at an accelerated rate. No one there was capable of doing it but me. If i didn't get this done mankind was to be just another extinct race.

By July 6 the 2 orbiting satellites were able to carve out 60% of the terrain features in the SE quadrant of the city. Still some smoothing of the area had to be done but our first priority was creating shipping lanes as this was to be the industrialized side of town. This old photo was taken directly from the software used to process and relay commands to the sats.

On July 9th, the Satellites (whom we lovingly call Tom and Jerry) began carving out the rough shape of the SW quadrant of the region. The CBD was 90% carved out by Tom and Jerry was moving in to finalize the area. To be more efficient I had Tom carving out the shapes of the landmasses and Jerry would come behind for the finalizing work. Once they were done with their jobs they would both circle the region and stand by powered down to wait for our arrival. Our goal was to get the entire SW quadrant carved and move Tom over the the NE in 48 hours. So far we are on track.

Jerry had a minor guidance system glitch this morning and went offline for 2 hours 31 minutes. That left us with a slight gap in coverage but nothing that can not be compensated for. Lets hope our power reserves last as long as we anticipated.

So far so good. I would love to be able to go out to the gym and shoot some hoops with the team. Playing basketball in this low gravity environment is fantastic! But being a leader carries with it great responsibility and mine is simple. Do everything I can now because I am everyone's only hope.
