SimCity 4 Deluxe won't start

I just bought SimCity box and SimCity 4 Deluxe came with it. The installation went successfully but the problem is, I can NOT get it to start up. Whenever I tried to start it up, it kept saying that I need to insert disc in, even it's ALREADY in there. I tried Disc 2 and back to Disc 1. But still nothing. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I have Windows Vista Home Premium x32 bits.

EDIT: I tried using compatibility mode to XP SP2 and run as adminstrator but it still doesn't even work.

Well, first get the mandatory update from SC4Devotion. It is behind the EA Support button at the bottom left of the page. Be sure you get the one that is relevant to your copy of the game.

After you have updated to level 1,1,638, things should be better. EP1 is a general bug fix, and really needed.

The play disk is disk 2.

There have been some defective copies in that issue of the game. If you can't get it working, take it back for exchange.

Ok, thank you. I feel REALLY stupid for uninstalling it after hours of no solutions until I saw this. I'll try this update thing after I install it tomorrow since it's late. But again, thank you.

Working with SC4 from 2004 (Win XP only) - and never hear about SC4 Devotion for starting SC4 .... This is a problem with disks - if You can't start Your game with Disk 2 - you can't update Your game !!!

Your game must run with any levels - without any update ... This is a rule ...

But as "A Nonny Moose" said above about "some defective copy" ... may be ...

Try reinstal Your SC4 with step by step - You must have Your Game in Your:

Program files/ Maxis/ SimCity 4 Deluxe folder ... Or try this on Your friends Computers ...

Well, in fact, if you have a good installation, the patch updates should work whether you can run the game or not.

One question: Does the game start immediately after installation? It should.

I did everything you said, it still doesn't WORK. I'm really frustrated now. I even tried it on my dad's laptop with Windows 7, still NOTHING. And Moose, installation did went good, it just won't go past the bridge screen and that's where the dialog popped up, telling me to insert a disc, even it's already in there. I guess it's a bad copy of disc. So, I'm going to take it back and get new one.

Good luck. If all else fails, try and get a refund and then download it from Gamersgate. This one comes all dressed and doesn't need a disk in the drive.

Moose, I can really legally download that game WITHOUT a need for CD?

And btw, since Target have no more in the stock, I'm going to think about getting that one you just suggested.

You get the same version (1,1,641) you would get from Steam or Origin but without the snoopware. And yes, you need to have an account. They mail you some weekly garbage, but you can stop that if you want.

Just FYI, if you've purchased the Simcity Deluxe pack that has the other games in it, those discs don't work. I've been through that. The best way to get a working version of the game these days is download it.
