Does anyone have any ideas/ suggestions for an interchange in my city? I know about the interchange guide thread, but wanted to see/ hear other ideas. wink.gif

As you can see, its a tight space so a compact four-way junction is needed. However, I'm not sure what kind of interchange should be constructed here. I ruled out cloverleaf because its too big. Thanks! smiley.gif

P.S.- Don't worry about the TLA-7, that's just temporary until I find an interchange.

So just to clarify... is this a 4 way interchange with that small Ave-4? If so, this scene already looks crowded with the junctions on the left and right of the frame and I would recommend against adding another one. I like to keep a good 30 or more tiles between junctions to maintain realism and safety for the drivers.

However, if you plan to replace one of the two existing junctions, I would personally recommend a SPUI (Single Point Urban Interchange). It is listed in that interchange guide you mentioned. They are very compact and efficient.

No I meant for the RHW-6C. Those two 6c routes are planned to cross each other (like "+"). I just have not built the other stubs yet. The TLA-7 is there just to connect the two in the meantime. As for the NAVE-4, no there is no plan for an exit there.

With the space available, it would probably be difficult to add another interchange there. I was playing around and came up with this...

    RHW6-SPUI.jpg

Things could probably be tightened up a bit, but there are several drawbacks. A lane is lost using the SPUI and traffic isn't straight through. Plus, with the necessary transitions, it might not fit anyway without some redesign of the current layout, and I'm not sure how functional or stable the RHW6C is going under the SPUI. But, for what it's worth...

Oh... In that case, you may still need to eliminate the two avenue junctions because it is still too crowded if you add in the junction between RHW 6Cs and want to keep both as free-flowing motorways. All the interchange styles I know/use are listed in the guide.

Edit: @CaptCity, I have had RHW6C work perfectly fine under a SPUI in one city.

If you're wanting to keep the connections to the surface street network (the Avenues), you may want to consider joining the interchanges together using some splitters. Assuming the image is oriented facing north, the ramp from the northern RHW-6C segment to the western RHW-6C could start before the interchange between the northern RHW-6C and the Avenue, and split into separate ramps, one for accessing the other freeway and one accessing the Avenue. You'd probably need to do a little demolition, though.

Things like that and C/D lane setups would probably work quite well.

Additionally, I'm presuming that current curvature/TLA-7 section is merely to connect the two existing RHW segments at present? If so, I think you'll have a lot easier time connecting the two freeways if eliminate that and have them go full-on orthogonal there. I'd take some time to experiment with the interchange. Some of my most elaborate ones, I just feel it out.

just my 2 cents.... seeing how u have lots of space in the mini map, use Tarkus's idea (in my pic, green) to make the right turns go through the ave, and then use a turbine interchange idea for lefts (blues and purples) ( Knooppunt_turbine.png ). should turn out great.

Ok. First I would like to thank everyone for their suggestions. Tonight I somewhat re-made the highways from a "6C" network to "4/6/8S" networks. That made it a lot easier for ramps, etc. I also decided to change the plan routing of the north/south highway. (That pic from my earlier post is facing east so south is to the right and north is to the left.) Instead of having a four way interchange, I built a three-way interchange and the north/south highway will be multiplexed with the east/west freeway until the far west side of the city. Here is a pic:
