copying/pasting the first couple updates from CSGf

Fairfield Volume II - Update the First

Here we will read an entry from well-known seafarer John Harper's logbook...

After a major hurricane, I regret to inform you, Sir Howard the First, that we had to abandon ship. The damages were much too terrible to fix. Even our chief repairman, Verdigris, could not fix the leaks that the large waves had caused. However, after a bit of exploring on the lifeboats, I am excited to inform you that we have found new land. Whether there are native people of this territory, we have established camp at coordinates X: 2099 Z: 730. We decided to give this place a name, so after some debates, we stuck with the name...

Oops! Looks like some of the page was torn out! Sorry! Well, I guess we can just skip right to the pictures!

0.1 Here we can see the dock that we built after we landed on the settlement. It is very basic, and will likely need replacing soon.

0.2 The town as it was about 12 months ago. As a matter in fact, we found native people of the area, and we have made some peaceful diplomacy with them.

0.3 And the town as it is now.

Oh, and for the record, my name is Vladimir Verdigris. Just so you know, I'm not the writer of that logbook entry, nor is it current.

    And now...

    Update II

Click the spoiler to read the blablabla that Verdigris wrote before the events of this update. Otherwise just go on with the pictures.

As I have gotten finished studying the climate of this landmass, after a brief discussion with other crew members, I have determined this is a rather warm climate. We have also decided to invite some friends and family to this winter vacation spot. Since we haven't gotten in touch with them ever since we left from Ashlar Brochure(it's an anagram, see if you can solve it and discover the REAL name), it would be pretty wise to tell them that we're still alive and thriving. Except for one unfortunate but important crew member; who goes by the name 'Van Viridian', who is unfortunately no longer with us

    :(.

1.0 - It may seem obvious, but if it's not, the town has grown quite a bit since you have last seen it. Farms are beginning to be established. Population is beginning to expand. And most importantly, a telegraph line to A Hurrah Corbels(anagram)

    rtrH5.jpg

1.1 - Verdigris had established a park here. It currently features a playground, some woods, and tennis courts.

1.2 - Here's a shot of the current state of the region. As you can see, there is nothing much but untree'd tiles and a nice little town and farms.

1.3 - Region Census shot of Harper's Landing

Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy-

    wait.

There's something else that I'm going to talk about in this update.

I was thinking of making up a measurement system just for Fairfield. The nat system.

    1 kanat = 1 tile

    10 kanats = a yanat

    100 yanats = hanat

otherwise, that's about all. see ya for update III!

    -Aco

and actually, tc had that idea originally for cheese's server I believe. It's not exact, though.

tell me what you think! I'll be sure extending this system if you like, so leave a comment about your thoughts and suggestions!

    REPLIES

Look forward to seeing some more entries!

Thanks! They're coming, and you must be reading a new one right now!

    So, without any further delay...

Update III - We need to get industrialized!

Exciting news! The king has ordered, well, ME! To become the governor of the new Fairfield Colony. We have explorers still navigating this rugged land to find where exactly our capital will be. Some of the locals have speculated that Harper's Landing will be renamed "Fairfield" and become the capital of the Fairfield Colony. I can say that I like that idea. I also have even more exciting news. We've been finding large diamond deposits in the makeshift mines of ours. One of my mining fellows (Rick Etasly, he's the leader of a local professional mining group here) has given me one diamond to keep. Since I'm not greedy, I can't say I want to sell it for money. It's a prized possession for me. I'll put it in a display case in my center room, beside my TV. But I must say, being governor will really have it's cons and will be quite a ride. View the entire entry here.

Blabla. Who cares about that junk Verdigris wrote? I sure don't. Anyways, let's go on.

2.0 - The current state of Harper's Landing, at 1,010 residents. Ever since our invitations, the town has grown very fastly, with plantations and houses popping up everywhere.

    SLHa9.jpg

2.1 - The southern half of Harper's Landing has been expanding quite rapidly. Surprising how much a town can become divided in a year. If I were the mayor, I'd split the town in half. They're two completely different communities.

    nVA2I.jpg

2.2 - Industrial works have FINALLY made their way into town. I, as a greedy anti-environmentalist, was anticipating this for a long time.

    cNh9r.png

2.3 - Anyways, here's a snapshot of the town from far above.

Anyways, the name's The Narrator, and we're done here.

This is a great setting for a city; plenty of land and water access. Looking good.
